empty message rely to this if you have an idea

How about some type of real-time collaboration add-in for VS, kinda like netmeeting, that would allow us to log into a session and work together on the same solution. It would need to incorporate a messaging and whiteboard system as well as mechanisms for who reads/writes the files and a way to track changes/et. al. May seem overwhelming at first, but with enough polishing, we may end up with a workable environment. - Nitron

PLEASE READ THE COMMENTS SECTION Since I have taken the liberty of starting things, I will post thread management and CPP statements there. PLEASE no subthreads in any section except COMMENTS. I have added a new section, POLLS, which will be used to get specific user feedback. Please participate. First things first. Let's get a list of those that would like to be involved in whatever project we decide to do. Please reply to the VOLUNTEERS message below this one. No sub threads please. Also, if you reply in another thread, too bad. This will give us an idea of how many people we're dealing with. Secondly, we need to decide on the project that we want to make. Please reply to the IDEAS thread if you have an idea. Lastly, we need to decide on how we will control the project's source and distribution among the developers. Please reply to the SOURCE CONTROL thread if you have ideas for the best way to handle this. We will cut off project IDEAS (for CPP phase 1) on Monday June 2nd. If you have a great idea after that date, too bad. We'll use it for the next phase of CPP's if this first phase is a success. Also, I think we need to set a project initialization date so let's go with June 9th. This is the date we'll create the article and divvy up responsibilities. General comments to this idea, etc. should be posted in the COMMENTS thread below. Let's keep the thread "clean" so we won't get confused. I will take responsibility of monitoring this CPP thread pool and handing out initial duties until such time as we collectively choose our project leadership. THANK YOU!

empty message Just so this doesn't get out of hand, let me post new polls directly under this message. If you would like to ask a poll question, please ask me to write it out by posting a request in the COMMENTS section. thanks

Should we use only the most popular idea or should we split the ideas into multiple projects?

In order for polls to work in this discussion forum, I think you'll want to post the poll title, then one new post below that for each poll option. Then we can vote a 5 for the one we want (and leave the others alone). The post with the most votes then one the poll. That way there will be far fewer posts and an easier way of determining the winner. Ex: POLL: Do you like beef? Re: POLL: Do you like beef? "Yes" Re: POLL: Do you like beef? "No" Of course, you could make it cleaner by just putting "Yes" and "No" in the message titles, but I wanted to make the concept easy to understand. [edit]I'll post an example below this message, then delete it when it serves no more purpose.[/edit] John

Its an informal process at the moment, so please just give an answer to the question. If you wish to make a suggestion, then use the comments section.

Please put these ideas in seperate messages so they can be voted on individually. Then add your general comment to the comments section. We gotta follow the rules Paul. ;) Thanks.

Jason Henderson wrote: We gotta follow the rules Paul. Apologies Saheeb. I will repost. On that though really we should have another thread called Final Ideas (you create it and populate it with each seperate idea, merging similar or ideas which are the same.) Then there can be a call for two days of voting (not over a weekend) for the final tally. As it is now the main rush of voting was probably over before the last few ideas. Not that I mind much either way really, whatever gets us going is the best :)

Jason Henderson wrote: If you wish to make a suggestion, then use the comments section. Will do from now on. I just thought that you really don't want an additional 100+ responses for every poll you'll be posting. This thread is already likely to have won the "Most Massive Code Project Thread" award! Let me know if/when you want me to delete these. John

Well, at the risk of getting flamed, and as I have seen a couple of application framework ideas posted, how about helping with the Visual Component Framework[^]? It's easy to use, better laid out than MFC, and will eventually run on multiple platforms (the GTK and Mac port are in progress, and I see no reason it couldn't work on devices like WinCE). In addition it has a really cool RTTI/Reflection API making writing plugin/add-ins a cinch. ¡El diablo está en mis pantalones! ¡Mire, mire! SubVersion is not at "one point oh" yet. I wouldn't recommend using it for anything serious just yet.. :) -- I'm the figure head on a ship of fools
You are aware that the Subversion developers themselves are using it to version control the Subversion project? It's looking pretty good and they're in beta phase now ¡El diablo está en mis pantalones! ¡Mire, mire! Real Mentats use only 100% pure, unfooled around with Sapho Juice(tm)!
