And toward whom was I expressing hate? 1. A certain person claimed that guns are not real 2. I proposed an experiment to test this reality 3. I also strongly urged said person not to try the experiment, in the firm belief that said person would regret the results

Well, the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution guarantees equal protection under the law. OTOH, you have "hate crimes", "aggravated offenses" due to the victim being of a "protected group", etc. ad nauseum. Yet another case of "The big print giveth, but the small print taketh away".
