WSO CCC OTD - 10 Sept 2019 - Solved

Maybe I'm wrong and everyone knows their Harry Potter trivia a lot better than I do, but I think this week's theme caters to too small of a niche audience and it might just be a back and forth between yesterday's and today's CCC setters.

This one is going to be easy as the theme is already out. time starts now, the clue was a bit flawed. Almost valid, a bit false with blokes down under, Mentalist (10).
Since no one has given the answer. Almost Valid = Legi(Legit) bit false = li(lie) blokes = men down under = I think a reference to south s. The spell delves into the mind and extracts memories hence mentalist. Legilimens I would think the continuous reference to how many British hang around the Lounge, they'd have read Harry Potter. Perhaps I'm just falsely stereotyping here.

I agree I don't know anything about Harry Potter - If we are going to continue with themes we need to keep them as broad as possible e.g. Famous Horror Films, Famous westerns - etc... etc.. with the emphasis being on famous and not on the same film all week

Yes, as someone predicted earlier, you're up tomorrow. Maybe you should change the theme to something else to make it more inclusive. Up to you.

I've read all the books. I was still a kid when they came out. I've seen the movies 2-3 times each. The Mrs is also a fan. We've seen/read the spinoffs. Point is, I thought I qualified as a fan, but I haven't a hope of solving these. I agree, the category should be more broad. I would say Harry Potter is big enough in itself and well enough recognised in pop culture to count as a theme, even if not every one has read it.

Perhaps the theme could be a bit broader, I'll have to think it over (It will have to stick to Harry Potter unfortunately because of my own inner demons :-D ) but wouldn't aaaanything from the Harry Potter be even more difficult to guess? The last time I had Monday's CCC I wanted to set the theme to HP then, but didn't, everything I thought as the answer seemed so obvious, at least to me :laugh:.

Here here... I only mentioned the specifications of the spells yesterday to show my intended theme, I didn't mean to set the week's theme to them. Besides as I said yesterday any of the spells could be used from books to, HP and FB movies, HP games, even the notorious cursed child (such a disappointment BTW!).

I did try to read the first Potter but I couldn't get on with it. I liked many of the ideas but just couldn't get on with her prose style. It's quite rare that I don't finish a book, but I abandoned it about a third of the way through. I did read all of Agatha Christie's output many, many years ago and was quite fond of them at the time. My own literary recommendation to anyone would be Wodehouse with a side of Wodehouse, washed down with an extra splash of Wodehouse.
