Can the Prion already drive by itself? I would fall asleep if I had to crawl like that. I thought the days where you had to sneak around like that were over. Provided that the weather is good and not too many eggheads roll around in the way, I love to drive at 130 MPH or a little more.

Every day on my way to work, I find myself walking faster than the traffic. I suspect that all those motorists are dreaming about being able to go at 40MPH!

Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect. - Mark Twain

My 10 year old (189,000 miles) Suzuki SX4 is on its last "wheels" -- transmission problems, exhaust problems, and starting to sound like engine is giving up the ghost soon. So it was time. Fuel mileage is almost 3x what I was getting with the Suzuki, especially on the commute to work which is 45 - 55 MPH, mostly flat, and a surprising amount of the drive is purely on electric power. Very

My 16 year old is learning to drive, and we got to talking about what kind of car he'd like to drive, his response? "Anything, as long as it's not a Prius!", apparently it's not cool amongst the younguns, who knew?

Prius is not cool with most of the planet. People who take fossil fuel reduction to the extremes, get a Prius. To each their own.

Can't say I think about car coolness very often, mostly it's does it hold my family, fishing gear, and is the stereo loud enough. Carbon footprint be damned.

Happily my commute is on country roads, but they do have their share of deer, possums, foxes, raccoons. Those are the speed limits and the bear is watching!

I'm selfish. Top of the priority list is reducing my cost at the pump. Secondarily is the environment. But somewhere in the middle is also reducing my dependence on, ahem, "foreign" oil.

And what are the environmental and resource costs of all the batteries used in these cars? (Including disposal, when the time comes)

Damn awful! Electric cars are a joke. If you want a renewal fuel that is almost a direct replacement for petrol it is alcohol. GM plankton that produce high levels of sugar, yeast, and a still. We could produce trillions of liters of in in big factories in Spain, built on useless dry ground, soaking up massive amounts of sunlight.

Get him a hybrid Camry or Accord then. Other than small badges they look like normal cars; but they come within a few percent of matching the Prius's fuel economy (better areo from the silly looking back end helps the latter). My '17 Accord puts out ~210hp and drives just like a normal car; I just don't have to buy as much gas. :-\ For my driving and current gas prices I'm still falling a hair short of break even on car payment+gas spending; but should break even on that measure within a year or two of payoff. I'm probably actually ahead though in that electric breaking doesn't wear out pads/rotors cutting my future maintenance bills.

Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason? Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful? --Zachris Topelius Training a telescope on one’s own belly button will only reveal lint. You like that? You go right on staring at it. I prefer looking at galaxies. -- Sarah Hoyt
