And here I thought I was the oldest, being born in July 1949... My Dad was a radioman in the Navy attached to the Marines in the South Pacific. He'd go on shore with the marines and radio back to the battle ships telling them where to aim the big guns.

After reading OG's post about ARPANET 50 years ago I started to wonder who is the oldest/youngest active member here (age not membership)?

So far, I appear to be the eldest, with a birth year of 1944. I'd be happy to teach any of you young'uns what I remember offhand about the early days of FORTRAN and COBOL! Of course, eventually I progressed from there to Basic, then C, C++, and finally C# with a bit of JavaScript and a few others thrown in for good measure. Please wake me in time for my nap!

@Dennis Dykstra: Sorry 1944 doesn't make it. How about April 1943? First program Fortran II (compiler was a deck of punch cards), Last coding Angular 7 a couple of days ago. Agree it's time for a nap!

I can't say I am the oldest, but born 11/1954 and first started programming in 1977. And still going strong with C#. .NET, Blazor, Xamarin.Forms, .NET Core, etc.

Born a couple of months before VJ day. Without wishing to offend any of our eastern friends, my dad was still fighting their fathers or grandfathers when I was born.

My age is now 77. I don't like the order of these digits so I simply add them and tell everyone I'm 14. Started out with punched cards and Fortran. Primitive but pretty secure.

Looking at all of the replies, I wonder what happened during May-August 1958 to cause so many February to May 1959 births of people who turned out to be programmers.... March 4 1959 here.

July, 1940, but so far only the second oldest. I started with Fortran before it needed a number and did some coding in FAP, then coded in various assembly languages for mainframes, minis and micros. Along the way I picked up bits of COBOL, PL/I, BASIC, CBASIC, ALGOL... I am still grateful for C. For the past 15 years, I revel in Classic C++.
