Didn't know that breed. Seems like there's disagreement on different Wikipedia pages on whether they should be considered a version of NewFoundland or not.

I know about this dispute whether it is originally Newfoundland or not. For me, this doesn't count. Our two do anyway not exactly meet the standards of the breeders. One has too much black, the other has too little black in the fur. And even more, if we hadn't taken the two, they would have been sorted out (probably killed, what a shame!). For me it is only their nature that counts and this is very good. They are excellent guards (which is very good for us since we live very remote) on the other hand, they are very gentle to people they know. VW Caddy Max Kombi For that budget you can spec every conceivable extra going, you'll end up with a motor that seats five in comfort with enough room in the back to take two deerhounds in comfort as well (for those not versed in canine breeds think small donkey). Fantastic vehicle to drive, especially in the automatic variant. Mine can easily return not far off 63 miles to the gallon when driven on long runs on European motorways. Not quite as good a return on UK roads, but then again our roads are shit.
Ugly car :laugh: But really I will think about it! It looks comfortable and the 45K I mentioned ... I'm very happy to have a good car for half of that. I don't need this and that extra. Thank you for this hint :thumbsup:

Now, one of them (the younger one) is currently too nice. Means, give him food and it will be happy (I think with training this will change). But the other one is the total opposite (and this by nature), in case he does not know you (means he didn't saw you with the family) he can become a "beast" :-D

I had to look this up because they aren't sold in North America. I found a YouTube video[^]. I thought OP wanted a car, not a bus! It's amazing that you get 63 mpg on a motorway. The engine must be undersized to the point where the vehicle's epithet will be The Envy of Sisyphus, because it'll be OK so long as you push it uphill.

Actually mine's a two litre , 150 bhp and goes like sh*t of the proverbial shovel. Good returns on motorways come from hitting that sweet spot of engine revs and speed, all too easy to do on European motorways , damn near impossible on British roads.

I would think any of the 7 or 9 seater SUVs would be adequate, or get a twin cab ute, those dogs don't look like they would be discomforted by a bit of wind/rain/snow/blizzard. I would be astonished if any "car" style would be adequate, even a station wagon might be a little low.

If you are not really after a particular brand, you could try Seat Tarraco. It is cheaper compared to big brands. I have been driving a Seat for over an year now and it has not given any problems so far.

Looks like Berner Senner to me, except for the colour. So, properly big then. That excludes cars that people think has a large luggage compartment, but doesn't. Like Audi A6 and Volvo V90 and similar. So if you want a normal car there are not so many to chose from: VW Passat (Maybe), Skoda Superb Combi, Mercedes E-class. If you look at larger SUVs there are quite a few more to choose from: Audi Q7, BMW X7, Land Rover/ Range Rover, Mercedes GL, GLB, GLE & GLS, Porsche Cayenne (actually), Seat Tarraco, Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Landcruiser, VW Touareg & Tiguan and Volvo XC90. (And any US SUV) But the best bet if you want a practical car are among the people carriers: Citroën Berlingo & Spacetourer, Dacia Lodgy, Fiat Dobló, Ford C-Max, S-Max, Galaxy and Tourneo, Opel Combo & Zafira, Peugeot Rifter, Renault Grand Scenic and Volkswagen Caddy. If you don't care overly much about reliability that is.

You're not kidding! I had to drive the M4 from Swansea to Newbury and back as part of a funeral in Guildford last Monday and boy could you tell when you entered England. The number of potholes and worn-out surface on a fast motorway was unbelievable.

Ha! You think the UK is bad - as did I after I moved to Germany. Try the USA. For a country dedicated to the automobile ("motor car" in English) they don't seem to care about potholes big enough to break axles! I had to endure an ambulance ride through Baltimore. I think more damage was done to my back from the potholes than in the original accident!

I had a VW Touareg for a while. It turns out to be basically the same car as an Audi Q7 or Porsche Cayenne. Very big loading capacity - big enough for two large ST.B Fluffballs!

Two golden-retriever sized dogs here. We've bought a used Mercedes Vito two years ago but by now we're not so happy anymore. Lots of costs for keeping it going, too huge if we go to Sicily with it's narrow streets, and simply too valuable if we go where we want to go with the dogs - meaning out in the green, far away from proper streets. Also mislike the looks we're getting from those that don't know you get that car used with 15.000, because it just looks like Men in Black arriving. In Sicily drawing too much attention from robbers. There are places in the world you don't want to draw attention. We're having a look at Dacia Dokker right now. In Germany you get that new for 15.000€ with all extras available. Already have a Sandero for daily use and are very happy with that one. Dokker should be big enough for your ponys too ;-)

Sincerely hope you have many happy years motoring in it. I love mine. You may find if you are often carrying the hounds in the back that it will pay to get the cargo bulkhead (the big full height wire grill that can go behind the rear seats). We find it a) keeps the mutts in the back. b) gives them their own space (very useful when driving the length and breadth of France) and finally if , god forbid you were to have a prang then at least they wouldn't be catapulted all the way to front.
