Parents!

[RANT] Aaarrrghhhh, My kids go to school, they have classmates, classmates have parents and those parents organize things like joint parties, driving to an event, presents for the teacher, … So one parent takes initiative and sends a mail to everyone to organize something. Great, very nice, no problem there. But then it seems that every single parent of every single classmate feels the need to press "reply all" to send "thank you", "how nice is this", "you're amazing" type of messages . As if I give a f... damn!! and of course, somehow the wrong email address is used, so you ask kindly to change it to something else, no, just press "reply all" again with some other useless message. Stupid parents ! :sigh: (had to get that of my chest, thank you for reading ;-))

It's the same annoying thing with group chat. I think there are lots of people that just need attention.
Social Media - A platform that makes it easier for the crazies to find each other. Everyone is born right handed. Only the strongest overcome it. Fight for left-handed rights and hand equality.

isn't social media just email with Reply All the only option? was [very briefly] in a cycling group... ... lot's of: - look at what I had for lunch today!! - my neighbour had a baby! - my cat is very fat, and shat on the mat!!! social media free for 5 years now... not a single relapse. still waiting for the sobriety chips to prove it, anyone know where to get them?
pestilence [ pes-tl-uh ns ] noun 1. a deadly or virulent epidemic disease. especially bubonic plague. 2. something that is considered harmful, destructive, or evil. Synonyms: pest, plague, people
With email it is too easy to lose content. If somebody replies to a "old" email then it splits the email chain and your suddenly following 2..4..8.. different conversations. Sure it's fine for a brief discussion if people only reply when they need to ("Thanks" is not one of those reasons). With social media (depending on the platform) everyone sees the full SINGLE chain. You don't have to remember who/when a specific thing was said. Plus you often get extra features, like creating events. It's always easy to find the event details, just go to the event. You don't have to scroll a massive chain to find the date of the event in one email and the "new changed time and location" in another one. Alan: "Party on Monday at 7PM at Bob's house" 10 people: "Cool. Great. I'll be there' [silly picture showing party excitement]" Bob: "Change of plan. I won't be home for 7, new time is 8PM" 10 people: "Cool. Great. I'll be there' [silly picture showing party excitement]" Chris: "Bob has lost his house. I am going to host the party at my place [insert new location]. Same time as mentioned before". Me: "So... Tuesday at 5PM at Dave's house, or nah?" I am not trying to promote social media, just trying to point out that they have a lot better functionality for this kind of thing than email does.

Email is NOT suitable for multi-person conversations.
Of course it is! That's why it has a "Reply all" feature! :-D

Solution: allow your kids to grow up in ignorance with no peer-to-peer social skills, and home school them. :-D

If you were evil, you could abuse the "reply all" feature, and do something like Reply All: Jane, looking forward to seeing you Friday Night! Reply All: Jim, Friday night's looking good, see you there Reply All: Steve, Friday night! See you there etc. Somebody might get a clue. then again, probably not :(

Considering the number of spam mails I routinely delete every day (most days it is 20-30 of them, but sometimes it is worse), handling those extra "reply to all" things doesn't add very much. Delete - delete - delete - ... That is only one more reason to hit Delete. Those are easily identified. I am slightly more worried about those that I immediately classify as spam - but they are not. If I hadn't done that double-check of my Deleted Mail folder a week ago, discovering that one deleted message was in fact legit, I would tomorrow morning have been woken up by a guy from the power company out to check that my complete electric installation is according to regulations. (I am about to tear it all out, having it replaced, so we had the check postponed until that work is completed.)
