so our survey got some views!

Good news: our survey got some views from "normal" people (see here[^]. Bad news: this is what they concluded from the survey: Developers Are Distracted Developers working from home in the COVID-19 crisis are facing more distractions than ever— from the pantry to family. Keep this in mind when offering advertising and content to developers. Their already fragmented attention is juggling new and different distractions.

This is an urban legend, like lawyers who are ... oh, hold on a second, my daughter needs me.

Yep! Too right. Working, being paid and (at the moment) still healthy. No more bitching from me.

Damn, you're really not good at it. I can still find plenty to bitch about.

That may be true for some developers, just as it may be for many other people not used to working at home. It is emphatically not true for me. I can be much more focussed and productive when I am at home than when I am in the office. I get a faster and more reliable Internet connection at home than in the office under the new company IT regime. I also get better tea, a better chair and a better office space. Working at home has been my default for quite a long time.

Married, 3 children, 4 grandchildren. Only SWMBO is left at home and mostly she leaves me in peace while I'm working. I know I am extremely fortunate compared to many people forced unwillingly to work at home and I don't mean to belittle their difficulties, just to point out that it's not the same for everyone.

I somehow missed that survey. Otherwise I would have added that I'm missing my 1m by 2m office desk with nothing but legroom underneath. Here at home I'm rather constrained with my 30y old computer desk with a board underneath where my legs should go (I remember I used to have my printer there - that saved me a lot of room on top of the desk, although it didn't help my knees either). I keep hitting my shins on it. X| As far as distractions go, I don't see much of a difference to the office. I expected that to be the greatest challenge but it really isn't. If anything, my spouse is making me work harder, not less. :^)
GOTOs are a bit like wire coat hangers: they tend to breed in the darkness, such that where there once were few, eventually there are many, and the program's architecture collapses beneath them. (Fran Poretto)

What an idiot he is.

Their already fragmented attention
Clearly, he has no idea how focussed an attention you need in order to do the job properly, and how external distractions can wreck your complex train of thought... On the other hand, if that reduces the number of ads I get targeted at me, it's a bonus! :-D
