Yes all politicians have the innate ability to understate the obvious, waffle on to avoid spending, until it is quite obvious that is what they will reluctantly have to do, at which point their first instinct is to blame someone else. I can quite easily see U.S. great leader still holds B.J's hand

The entire western world didn't take it seriously enough, so no-one wore masks, and the virus ripped through entire communities in no time flat. Where numbers are high in Asia, it's predominantly because of small clusters of arrogant or stupid behaviour (e.g. religious meetings), where masks were spurned. So, rule one, for the next one: Wear masks. Rule zero is, of course, Don't be a dick, but that rule's appropriate at any time, not just during a pandemic.

That "Perfect" leader had, despite prior knowledge, told people to get flu shot, called it a hoax, called it a plot by the opposing political party. As for all that money - still keeping politics above the lives of the people - they're going to bail out the cruse ship, airlines, and countless other business - but the told the post office to :elephant: off. They still want to bankrupt it so they can privatize it (or, at least, prevent mail-in ballots for 2020). Certainly, they see the cruse industry as more vital then the postal service. And yet, the persistant financial distress of the Post Office is contrived! They are (by a sleazy law) mandated to pay 70 years ahead for employee health/retirement - so they're drained of money and losing money is assured.

Reading their article - cardboard box, video with an iPhone, etc. - I hope they didn't get a huge grant to do this - and ditto for getting a new one. Ultimately, the conclusions from this group are if you block something it won't travel as far as if you don't block it. SCARF SECTION: Actually something worth considering: Suppose you worry about coughs (significant from what I hear). You consider coughs with no mask and with a mask. Now, the no-mask is basically obvious BUT what about the results of the with-mask . . . not in front of the mask, but to the sides . . . blowing sideways and even backwards into the surroundings. Or so one could hypothesized - based upon the type of mask and how well worn. Interestingly, it may be that wrapping a scarf around your lower face would be more effective as it's far more omni-directional in its coverage. Several layers would obstruct droplet propagation and yet maintain decent air flow (breathing, pressure-surge venting).

A staged "re-opening" is the only way to go, so it's clear that the certain-coloured guy you mention has suppressed his vaunted instincts and listened to experts on this, but it has to be made clear to everyone that they should be prepared for entire cities to be locked down again with very short notice, if cases surge. Be aware, though, that he's not the only national leader whose response has been, shall we say "sub-optimal" (or maybe "sub-par" would be more appropriate/biting), and he's not even the worst. ... But he's by far the most entertaining (which, curiously, appears to be one of his objectives). I think the whole point was just to visualize the cloud of droplets leaving your mouth when speaking. There are many people around that doesn't think it happens. About scarf vs surgical mask etc. The reason surgeons are using surgical masks is simply that they are sterile and disposable, which is important when you're operating someone. For stopping droplets I assume more or less any fine mesh cloth will do fine.

I think the whole point was just to visualize the cloud of droplets leaving your mouth when speaking. There are many people around that doesn't think it happens. About scarf vs surgical mask etc. The reason surgeons are using surgical masks is simply that they are sterile and disposable, which is important when you're operating someone. Until this article/video, I hadn't thought much of the scarf format - but then upon consideration of masks - to a great extent they'll share their effect between mitigation and redirection. Interestingly - "fine mesh" - can be obtained in more than one way. A single thing sheet of very tightly woven material or many layers of less tightly woven material. The former (fine mesh) will react poorly to pressure increases and redirect to vent said pressure; the latter (if the coarser mesh doesn't get extreme) doesn't have the problem with pressure (by comparison) but does effective trapping of droplets as the wend through the contorted path between mouth and "outside", trapping droplets on the fibers during many collisions. Somewhere in this is an optimum for, in particular, the purpose that masks are recommended for the general public (vs. surgery): to prevent the wearer from infecting others. This, of course, is a gedanken experiment. However, give it some thought - consider cases both at the boundaries and some middle-ground cases.

LOL. First of all, there are like 16 people living in New Zealand so obviously it's going to be a lot easier to contain than a country that has multiple cities in the millions. Secondly, China is *KILLING* infected people. If that's the kind of treatment leadership you want then, by all means, get going. Time to step out of whatever echo-chamber bubble you've been living in. You're not even getting half the story. You're getting a distorted 5% of it.

At present I happen to be living on planet Earth - infected with a pandemic as well as some very severe outbreaks of authoritarianism and bigotry-oriented nationalism. A realm where "us" vs. "them" has, as is often the case with shit, floated again to the top. Overt lies have found succor in real-life double-think. I suggest you look at information (from planet Earth, this time) and don't be simple minded. There are connections and they are there - not as conspiracy theories. There's horrible crap happening on both the left and right: at there extremer limits, supported by the same pillars of racial and religious bigotry.

Because, in case you haven't noticed - in the US (at least) the has been an awful lot of blaming going on by what is euphemistically referred to as The Top. Statements that are little short of claiming autocracy and absolute power.
