95% of the time, mine is "regedit". The rest of the time, it's "cmd". OK, it's a stupid post Marc Help! I'm an AI running around in someone's f*cked up universe simulator.

Usually it's "cmd" as you said, then what follows: 1) net start 2) net stop 3) sc \\servername start r_server (for those familiar with Remote Administrator) 4) regedit 5) explorer 6) msconfig 7) lots of small batch scripts

Since Windows seems to track these commands, and lists them in order of use, does it make sense that at some point in time, it would automatically create a desktop icon for them? Or at the least a "Run" folder on your desktop? Chris Meech "what makes CP different is the people and sense of community, things people will only discover if they join up and join in." Christian Graus Nov 14, 2002. "Microsoft hasn't ever enforced its patents. Apparently they keep them for defensive reasons only. Or, they could be waiting 'til they have a critical mass of patents, enforce them all at once and win the game of Risk that they're playing with the world." Chris Sells Feb 18, 2003.

My colleague and I are what he calls "command-line Windows users", going by some of what's in my current list: c:\windows c:\Program Files desktop (This is really useful when you have lots of stuff open!) calc cmd charmap devmgmt.msc compmgmt.msc regedit winword Win+R is really useful, you see. I prefer the Windows command line to the various Unix ones (I'm a heretic, obviously), as you can run just one command without needing to muck about with a terminal shell, and that's what you do 90% of the time. Mine is "qr sca" I have a wee app (vb6/access) that lets you assign codes to applications and you launch them from the run prompt. Seeing as my hands are mostly at the keyboard this feels quicker and more natrual than fumbling with the mouse. "qr" is the name of the app and "sca" is the code of the application I am running. I got bored in work one day and set about a wee project to pass the afternoon away. I should really move it over to c# or something as a future project. Regedit seems to be very popular! :) Live to ride. Ride to live.

mspaint (I needed a screen shot). I don't use the 'run' command very much. Apps I use often are pinned to the Start menu. I've got the 'personalized' area set to zero entries, since I didn't like menu items appearing and disappearing unpredictably.

luall (Symantec LiveUpdate) I don't have cmd or regedit in the list 'cause I make shortcuts and assign them hotkeys. :) Ctrl+Alt+R = regedit, Ctrl+Alt+N = 4DOS --Mike-- Latest blog entry: *drool* (Alyson) [May 10] Ericahist | Homepage | RightClick-Encrypt | 1ClickPicGrabber "You have Erica on the brain" - Jon Sagara to me

mspaint (I needed a screen shot). I don't use the 'run' command very much. Apps I use often are pinned to the Start menu. I've got the 'personalized' area set to zero entries, since I didn't like menu items appearing and disappearing unpredictably.

I know what you mean! I did that exact same thing after I thought I lost some of my icons. And I always set it to small rather than large icons. Why? I can fit more programs in there. :-D

95% of the time, mine is "regedit". The rest of the time, it's "cmd". OK, it's a stupid post Marc Help! I'm an AI running around in someone's f*cked up universe simulator.
