Did you miss the link? CNBC[^] It's also a way to reduce carbon emissions by your employees, given they can live and work in close proximity and don't need to commute.

So now the new era for work would be company changed to company based towns :omg:

Not the first, nor will it be the last: Port Sunlight - Wikipedia[^], Toyota, Aichi - Wikipedia[^] Then there were Company Towns[^] which went even further: owning the residences, shops, bars, theaters, brothels - and paying in company scrip that can only be spent there. A form of slavery in many cases: you couldn't earn enough "real money" to ever leave. :sigh:

 I'm always surprised how many people don't know about company towns. It goes back to the era where towns were built around mining spots. The fun part is even if they do pay you in real money, because they control the local economy your effective income is whatever they want it to be.

I do know about those, but learned that they forced to stop the practice as it was almost(?) slavery... And now the case of the golden-cage to make it look better...

I am surprised there are enough and people know about it. Heard for the first time in context of tech world.

Hey man - the military's been doing it like this for years, and it works pretty good. As a Google employee, the only time you would need to worry is when they give you a uniform and a rifle, and ask you how you feel about jumping out of 'planes.
