End of an era - no more free Yahoo groups & Couchsurfing

It seems that the era of free stuff on the 'net is coming to a close - or at least some of the free stuff from the folks that started giving out free service.
What groups I may have been (or still am) a member of I haven't bothered with since almost forever ago. Verizon, the proud owner, is doing what Verizon does best: screwing with people. That's sort of an aside. My suggestion: before it's too late - invite those people over to CP ! We can add more discussion groups until we reach the bottom of the page - and the font could be a wee bit smaller. Bob will have so many new friends !

The couple of still-alive Yahoo groups I subscribe to moved to groups.io a while ago. A lot of the others won't be missed....

Generally speaking, there should not be anything free anyway. Nothing is free in this world, so if it seems free at first glance, it is because you get screwed in an non obvious way.

I don't remember who told it first but... If you are using something free, it means that you are the product.

Same for the one group I'm in. The crippling of group functions VZ did some months ago effectively killed the platform. IIRC all the was left was a klunky mailing list feature, with everything else removed; it was destructive enough I didn't understand why they didn't go directly to full shut down at the time. What's happening now is a mercy killing.
