Just the two alt keys dead. Not sure if it's a hardware failure. I can just move out and buy a new one. but your reply might contribute towards an effective e-waste management policy.

Working fine on mine, so it looks like it's just you. Have you tried turning it off and back on again?

Maybe you are too gentle when pressing them... Have you tried a 5K hammer?

Most likely not a hardware problem. Oldschool keyboard encoders often used separate inputs for shift, ctrl and the like. On PC keyboards they have always been part of the keyboard matrix and more keys on the same row or column of the matrix should fail. To be sure, just try another keyboard if you have one. Shirley you still have some old stuff lying around?

The ALT to the ALT is not working? What are the odds? I'd check the man in the middle. Mine's the spacebar. That could be significant. But wait, there is also a Windows key on either side of my 2 alt keys. It's a conspiracy! (Or at least a pattern)

Turn off scroll-lock and ALT-lock on your keyboard

In Word you can only store 2 bytes. That is why I use Writer.
