I never drink coffee when I work and never have - is it just for the caffeine rush ? If you need it for inspiration / stamina - you need to kick back - I obviously have too much time on my hands :-D

I used to despise coffee until I worked night shift for about a year. It never seemed to matter how much sleep I had gotten, that early morning crash was going to come in hard. Picked up coffee to try and make finishing a shift easier. Ultimately ended up finding a taste for it, to the point where I like to explore different coffee blends. Oh, and it must be hot coffee. Get out of here with that iced nonsense.

Coffee is one the the Drinks Of The Gods - Gin'n'Tonic is the other - but the only one that doesn't get you arrested for driving after drinking it. It helps you focus, plus stay awake in meetings!

You apparently never tried a well made Sazerac then.

I don't get it either. People boast about how much they "need" (are addicted) to a drug. Why is that something to boast about?!! :omg: Most developers I have worked with do not drink coffee, which was a surprise to me. I had expected most would.

Coffee is one of the essential food groups, not consumed on a regular basis it causes dingbautulus which is akin to scurvy and although not fatal can cause a severe craving to listen to Justin Bieber music.

It's "logical": coffee has flavonoids. It's a race between the jitters and dementia.

Never had a coffee in my life[*], and I just never started because I suspect I'd probably be the type who drinks 6 a day. There was a period of time in my 20s when I had 2-3 Coke cans a day, but thankfully gave that up. These days on my desk I have these extra-large plastic Subway cups that I refill with water 3-4 times a day. It's probably my saving grace. [*] I've had chocolate-covered coffee beans, and I like the rush, but I intentionally avoid making a habit out of it.

Studies have shown it increases your focus and pattern recognition. I usually have 2-4 large cups a day. Multiple studies have shown the health benefits of coffee far outweigh the problems. A word of advice, if you: start to get the shakes from the caffeine, then stop for the day.
