Flat earthers try to sail to the edge of the world

This is what I say to flat earthers: pics or didn't happen.
The problem with that is ... ... if the world is flat, then to prove it and send back pics you are going to need a really good WiFi signal ... :laugh:

True, it would have to have a signal strong enough to travel to the bottomless pit that is at the end of the earth. Which has me wondering what the mathematical expression looks like to describe a "bottomless pit" - a void without end. I am sure infinity is in there somewhere.

I guess a 'bottomless pit' could be described as an infinite Riemann curvature tensor over a four-dimensional manifold. In laymen terms... think of the moon orbiting the Earth... it will never 'hit the ground' so to speak. (Although the moon is a bad example) I know nothing about the flat earth argument... what is the hypothesis? If anything... it looks to me like the universe might be some type of hypertorus[^]. I'm not a physicist so I am probably wrong.

I saw a guy on TV some years ago. He claimed that the earth was of "infinite mass", which explained the illusion that it appeared round when observed from here. No idea what he though of the pictures from space.

I think I'll pass on that... I worked very hard to get Youtube to serve me only mathematics, science and computer related videos. It took me over a year. Two years ago I watched a few 'Rogan' videos and it caused my entire YouTube recommendations turned into marijuana, LSD, mushrooms and some South American plant that makes people trip. I couldn't make them go away... clicking on them and down voting somehow caused more of them to appear. I had to reset my account to get rid of them. I don't want google recommending me flat earth videos.

Interesting. I'm not sure I want to comment on that. Even if there were a singularity at the center of the earth I can't imagine how that would translate into a flat earth.

Just an FYI, when ever this starts happening to me, and I am signed into my YouTube account then I just clear the watch history or the offending videos that are messing up my recommendations, clear my browser cache, restart browser, and login into account again. Seems to work fairly well so far.

Thanks, I just had something similar happen on my Amazon Prime account recently. I watched three 'UFO' videos in a row and it caused my entire recommendations list to be aliens/ufo related. I contacted support and they showed me how to go into my history and click 'Do not use this for recommendations'. Here is food for thought... ancient Hebrew and the related Canaanite family of languages did not have separate words for 'suggestion' and 'temptation'. Imagine what our future will be like with these 'suggestion' algorithms evolving and people installing a neuralink directly into their brain. A future of un-blockable suggestions temptations advertisements.

They won't be smart enough for that. At best they are likely to employ carrier pigeons. If the pigeons are smart enough to navigate a spherical world, navigating a flat world will be a breeze! :)
