"Flying" across Europe and into Asia, via the live view camera on the ISS, the obvious hoax is all too evident. The separation between between the continent of Asia and the alleged continent of Europe is the Ural's. I mean really - North America has the Rocky Mountain range and it's not considered two continents. Other continent have their ranges - and as respective, if not more so, than the Ural. The basic reason that is probably the only "justification" is that the early map-makers (per current usages) were Europeans and thus, in their usual arrogance, needed to give themselves a special spot. It's just a crock. From now on, I'll refer to far-western Asia as just that. Join me in righting this wrong!

Yes, Europe and Asia are one continent, we all know that. On the other hand... just the other day I watched a YouTube video which discussed continents and why Australia is a continent while Greenland isn't. It concluded that the reason many people consider Europe and Asia to be different continents is due to cultural differences.

Don't forget the earth is flat, too. Se we have a perfectly level and flat earth with a bunch of contested territories that a lot of people get excited about and post in the Lounge. :sigh: Who bloody cares.

I think, as someone else mentioned, it's called Eurasia. When I come to think of it, north America is the same continent as south America. Therefore, with the same logic: Stop calling it north America! Also, stop calling yourself American if you mean you are a usaian. Americans live in both us of a, Argentina, Brazil and all over that continent. Oh, also - let me remind you. Usa is 5% of the world. Let's divide! Let's hate each other!!! As much as we can! That way everyone can be happy. War - it's fantastic!

So Antartica is really just a strip of land going all about the outside edge to keep all the water in?

Well, that's a difficult argument for them to uphold. I mean, if that were true then we'd have Quebec as a separate continent. Also, Red States viz-a-viz Blue States. China vs. Russia? We all know how that ends up.[^]

OK, at what width does an isthmus separating two continents become a "land connection" that combines them? You assert that 80-120km is not wide enough; I stipulate that 1000km or more is wide enough. Where does the boundary lie? Who decides? This is urgent; the first interstellar mission is leaving any century now... :)

Secondly - you need to perhaps familiarize yourself a bit more with how the lounge works. What goes on here. Perhaps look at the topic options (News, Question, ..., Joke, Rant) and the comments icons recently added? We have discussions. We have debates. We have fun. And if you step out of line again . . . .

It's much older than that, Both "Asia" and "Europa" is old Greek and what the Greeks referred to as Asia is todays Anatolia. Afrika is what the Romans called the land where the Carthagenes lived, which is todays Tunisia. The meaning of the words have obviously changed since then. The whole concept of continents is much newer than the names for them. Well, at least the ones mentioned above.

Yup, the ancients couldn't study the planet from space and didn't know about tectonic plates.

You forgot to mention that in case somebody does not aggree with you that he/she is wrong ;P
I don't usually waste typing on that which is intuitively obvious. You, for example, knew without my telling you . 🎓

The theory of tectonic plates wasn't accepted until the 1960s. And even though he couldn't look at the Earth from space, Eratosthenes accurately calculated its circumference.

Obviously, Europe and Asia are a single continent, Eurasia. That makes 7 continents: Africa, N. America, S. America, Antarctica, Australia, Eurasia and, the most important of all, Great Britain. Also, obviously, until the Suez Canal was built, Africa and Eurasia were just one continent. Similarly, until the Panama Canal was built there was just one American continent. There was originally only six continents: Great Britain, Antarctica, Australia, New Zealand, America and The Rest. Whether Britain and Ireland count as two separate continents is still disputed (by the Irish, mostly).
