At least it's not Outlook 2002 that fails miserably to manage to inform me when I've got email into an IMAP account if my laptop's been either into power saving or suspended/hibernated and then Outlook hasn't been restarted upon resume :-) (please tell me that's fixed in the new version...?) Just as an FYI, I'm home next Sat so will have time on my hands again - will be in touch sometime next week probably. May (this) Week is worth savouring; I've had sooo much fun after exams (finished 'em on Wed)! Hope things are good for you in Canada too. -- Andrew.

Is there anything more annoying, in the entire world, than a badly encoded MP3? Well, maybe that's a slight exaggeration cause I know for a fact there are things more annoying than that. But to have a perfectly good piece of music ruined because some crackpot wrote a horrible encoder that can't even do 192kbps recordings well is pretty annoying don't ya think? So now I've had my rant, what's on everyone else's mind at the moment? And keep it civil - please! -- Andrew.

Encoding them poorly yourself in the first place using shoddy/buggy software and lame (cough hack) mp3 settings. Andrew Peace wrote: what's on everyone else's mind at the moment? Analice Nicholas.

I'll admit, I have MP3s that I don't have the original discs to. CDs are cool - but some music is particularly difficult, if not impossible, to find. Filesharing is carefully monitored in my university, and now is, in fact, completely prohibited and punishable by disconnection from the college network. That's not a weak threat either, I've seen it happen more than once so don't think I'm an MP3 shark by any means :-). -- Andrew.

LOL, you really have a bad on for Jim Carrey, don't you! He's not bad in comedies, but he really shines in dramas. He was quite good in The Truman Show, Man on the Moon and The Majestic and his performace makes you forget all those awful movies he made. Of course, once Dumb and Dumberer hits the screens, his career is gonna be over;) Nick Seng (the programmer formerly known as Notorious SMC)

My own MP3 encoding settings for LAME: --nspsytune --vbr-mtrh -V 0 -k -h -m j -b 32 -B 320 --athtype 3 -Z -X0 I can't tell the difference in any auditory way, shape, or form from the original .WAV file. I don't actually download often, but when I do, I rarely download any MP3's below 320kbps... I download the 320's, then recompress them under my own settings. It keeps any noticeable loss of quality to a minimum, since as far as I can tell, the only audible quality loss is on the original compressor's side (and most decent MP3 encoders handle 320kbps well enough).
