MS Action Pack Subscription
-
Was bouncing around the net and saw over at overclockers.com they had a coupon code for microsofts action pack subscription. 200 dollars off with promo code MHQ062. This brings the grand total to $99.00. http://members.microsoft.com/partner/salesmarketing/partnermarket/actionpack/actionpack_standard.aspx[^] This looks like a pretty good deal. Anyone ever use thier subscription service? At the end of the year when you renew what do they send?

What I'd like to know about the action pack is: what are the requirements? I suppose you have to be a Microsoft Certified Partner, so what are the requirements for that?

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world." - Mahatma GandhiIts posted at the very top. I used the bold key for ones that seem to stand out. The Microsoft Action Pack Subscription is restricted to resellers, consultants, value-added resellers, value-added providers, system integrators, developers, system builders, hosts, service providers, and who sell Microsoft products or provide solutions based on Microsoft products and technologies to third-party customers.

I'm wanting to know if a lone developer with his own small business can get it. ;) It would be really helpful for me if I could get it.

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world." - Mahatma GandhiI think if you have your own buisness you will have no problem to qualify. You should get a confirmation by email if you are approved. It is a yearly subscription so you will have to renew every year. However, If you have your own buisness and such it will work out cheaper regardless.

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world." - Mahatma GandhiNew keys are sent from what ive read from other forums when you renew. The information is likely on Microsofts website. In fact my own question I originally asked is likely answered there as well. Im just to tired right now to read it and go through the whole process. It would be nice to know if anyone has joined any of thier programs and how the experience was. I know if you try to do the deal to get all the software and not renew you will get burned. Not following through with whole subscription process would be like paying money for pirated software. It no better then downloading from the net. It wouldnt surpise me if it didnt expire like a trial edition all together if you didnt renew. So if your intentions are not within the spirit of the program its not good thing. My original opinion on subscriptions were very negative. But under the right conditions it seems like microsoft may have done something decent for folks who have to pay for multiple machines anyway. In the long run it would save a great deal of money.

I know I can go look at Microsoft but what is the difference between the Action Pack and the MSDN Universal Subscription? I get Universal but if A.P. is the same thing for $300 then I am all for that. Rex

Not my intention. ;) Just don't want to go thru the hassle of re-installing. Thanks for your time! :)

Code Frog wrote: what is the difference between the Action Pack and the MSDN Universal Subscription? Without having done a complete comparison, the action pack doesn't seem to include any Development tools, and MSDN Universal contains VS.NET Enterprise Architect, MSDN also includes copies of all operating systems provided or supported by Microsoft 9x/ME/2000/XP, the action pack seems to just have 2000 and XP. MSDN includes all the embedded development stuff as well. Also, MSDN includes (I believe) 4 technical support incidents. Here's a MSDN list from the store: http://www.codeproject.com/store/msdn.asp[^] I think MSDN includes a lot more. David

Ack! X| In just under a few hours, alot of sites had it posted in thier cyber deals section. Usually they dont last very long if it gets to many hits like that. If the package still interests you, I know MS has discounts on this package around the holidays frequently. Usually around 199 instead of 299. Not as good as the the 99, but still decent. Best regards, Mark
