the codewitch claims to be female. Until I have evidence to the contrary, I'd take her at her word. :-\

Computer science is fun , it is challenging, it can help solve a lot of things in this world. Where are you ? We need a lot more honey-the-codewitch in this world on Code Project. We need more Grace Hopper, more Annie Easley, more Margaret Hamilton, more Caterina Fake, more Shafi Goldwasser... Completely agree! We could use a little less testosterone and toxic masculinity in IT X| I don't doubt that the field as a whole would progress if it was a bit more mixed. Not sure what @code-witch has to do with it though, as he's just another dude* be it a bit... different** * We've all made that mistake when he first arrived, but the signs are there ** I'm talking about his single-line if-statements, of course

They're rising, but it is still seen as a boring job, while nurses save lives, teachers shape lives. There's a lot one can do that has more tangible result on the world. Converted one who wanted to join the army for a career; and in four, five years she managed to sail past me. Didn't help her much either. I'm not a girl but I play one on TV. In truth, I'm trans. But my gender is bees. Gender is just a prop I use to scare polite company. While I'm not a woman, it would take a vivid imagination and a liberal way with words to ascribe the word "man" to me either, and it is a little weird being in a field dominated by men as something of an outsider to that, so on some level I can at least relate with women who are in the field in that respect, if nothing else. :)

I could be wrong, but I believe honey-the-codewitch is male.

Really, don't take a mere verbal (or written) turn of phrase so seriously or literally. There are real things to get upset about; this is not amongst them.

Lurking ... I've been doing this for 35 years now and I can attest to the increase in the number of women. Still not enough given the societal demographics, but improving slooooowly.

I have never understood why people are so obsessed with skin color and diversity. Just hire the best candidate, period. I can't even begin to imagine having several people that are equally qualified and then deciding who to make the offer to simply based on their race or gender. That's insanity. :omg:

 If everybody did that, then there wouldn't be a problem. The problems start when the people doing the hiring believe that the "best candidate" is always one particular gender / skin colour / etc. When that's commonplace, laws have to be introduced to force them to introduce more diversity into their hiring process.
