                      When your gas tank is the size of an oil tanker... :) It is possible for prices to temporarily drop that low. Refineries rely on matched, steady flows of incoming crude oil and outgoing refined products; they have comparatively little storage space on-site. If demand suddenly (and unexpectedly) drops, they are faced with the requirement to store these highly flammable materials on site, and will do almost anything (including selling at negative prices) to get the stuff off the premises. If demand stays low they simply reduce their orders of crude, restoring the balance.
