Reconditioning: back in real life (i.e., chemistry) we would recondition our drying agents (such as DryRite) the we used in desiccators (used for storage, not making dried fruit). But - back to your post. Either you've a very tiny car or the entire back seat is filled with these things. This, too, may work and it's easier. Works in bathroom for several showers. rub a thin layer of soap over the desired area until it again appears transparent. That is, a bit of bar soap smeared with a slightly wet towel or, if you can figure out a good concentration, some soapy water. It needs to be only a very thin layer. Also good to leave "secret" nice messages for Mrs. and maybe get "a little extra" that night . . .

She wants me to get rid of it - even though it was years in the making. An idea I had to collect something that (perhaps) no one else collected. I too have a silica gel capsule collection. It has proven useful over the years for well... keeping stuff dry. Difficult choice. The SO or the useful collection.

Actually, not that kind of collection. It has no utilitarian intent. It's like collecting string or foil (or CP Reputation points). Once you do it for some useful purpose it loses the romance. The adventure. That "come see my silica gel capsule collection, my dear. Mwah ha ah.

I am with you, brother. I too collect something no one else seems to. In my case, it's empty prescription bottles. Mrs. Wife and I have reached the age where maintaining our ideal body chemistry requires a handful of pills in the morning and a handful at night. Most of these medications are provided in amber-colored plastic bottles with easily-removed labels. These bottles are in a range of useful sizes. The large size is great for reading glasses. I use a lot of the medium size bottles to store USB cables and adapters of various sorts, which frees me from untangling cords. The smallest bottles are great for easily lost items like memory cards, microSD cards, and so on.

What a dry hobby! Still, standard female procedure in such cases is to let the topic rest for a while and then the unwanted item will suffer an unfortunate accident while cleaning. You will see. That's one of the benefits of not having one of them around. I can keep what I want and even get to destroy it myself.
I have lived with several Zen masters - all of them were cats. His last invention was an evil Lasagna. It didn't kill anyone, and it actually tasted pretty good.

delete this;Alas - I have to mess up your no-one-else wants a bit. I, too, collect them in small amounts. Anywhere from putting in a few of each pill for a weekend trip to small items like small parts from old pairs of glass and those springy things that hold watchbands on watches. But empty bottles are always a treasure ! I just finished cleaning out a spout and squirty top from a bottle of Sriracha sauce after it served me well with its original content. Someday, I'm sure I'll have something to put in it. Really. One thing - from the description of the things you can put in your empty medicine bottles I will take literally your description of "handfuls". Sometimes vitamins come in jars like that but meds? Oh my!

RTFM and no amount of mind bleach will be enough to forget that. Without reading the manual, your only chances are rose colored glasses or a slim chance that she somehow manages not to go overboard. 45+ years sound like the latter case, but I'm afraid that model is almost out of production now. I know my luck and don't intend to gamble. It's not so bad. I just trade one thing that seems only bearable with lots of self deception or lots of alcohol against the freedom to do practically everything else.
