Let's say I'm interested in making my own USB mouse out of wood as in this. Does anyone know where I could buy the optical mouse parts in small batches? I'd be willing to make a few as gifts, but I'm not interested in making them in batches of 1000 ;) I could also gut the parts from an old mouse, but I was wondering if there was a way to start with just the controller. Thanks.

Why not buy an existing mouse and just gut it? I'm sure that's what they do. Jeremy Falcon

My guess is you will be better off just taking the parts from a mouse vs buy parts. I purchased 10 logitech optical mice a few months ago for $1 each and about $20 total shipping on ebay. edit -- After looking at your link it look like they just cover the mouse or take the top shell off an replace it. It will be much cheaper to buy the whole mouse... John

I don't think they've got mouse parts at your typical grocery stores, so you might just try fresh mouse straight from the pet store. ;P John
