Best National Anthem?

Another footnote. In Sweden it's a drinking song. With a different text obviously. :)

Hasn't some naughty person written drinking words for Du Gamla, Du Fria? :) That's funny that you use it as a drinking song. Apparently The Star-Spangled Banner was originally a drinking song!

What country/person has the best national anthem? In my opinion... [I'm American but I like it :-\ ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U06jlgpMtQs) And earlier I was trying to work on an Object-Oriented Program, and I forgot to build the constructor. OOPs...
Nothing wrong in liking another country anthem. (as much as it is tacky, the Kate Smith interpretation of [God Bless America](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7AOAH2lv3H0&ab\_channel=rpf16mm) is kinda good) I like the [Canadian](https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ô\_Canada) one. It was originally in French (it was a french canadian patriotic song) , it's mostly sung in the 2 official languages. It's also sometimes sung in both languages at some sport events, even in the USA, out of respect.
CI/CD = Continuous Impediment/Continuous Despair

How can you ever compare the national anthems of any two nations? Each is beautiful for the citizens of its nation. On the same note, I do not still understand the logic of deciding the Nobel Prize in literature. How is it ever possible to compare the literature of all the languages of the world. The person who decides should know all of them, not just at a superficial level, but also at a deep literary level. Is there anyone like that in this world? Can understand if they award a literary prize for English literature; but for all the languages of the world, seems not feasible.
I understand your point about literature, but a good translator can usually capture the subtleties of the original work.

There's some interesting history to this anthem. It was the Soviet anthem until the USSR broke up, after which Russia adopted a new one. Eventually Putin got it reinstated. It's a great piece, but some Russians didn't like the history that the music evokes. It originally had lyrics lauding Stalin, who fell out of favor after his death, so the lyrics were no longer used. Soviet citizens referred to it as "the song without words". However, lyrics were eventually reintroduced--by a Canadian. You can read about how it came about here[^]. That was still in the days of the USSR, though, and the lyrics are different now. But that first performance with lyrics in 20 years can be heard here[^].

The fox knows many things, but the hedgehog knows one big thing.I was just talking about the music really, not the Stalin applauding lyrics. It turns out Lenin wasn't as bad as people think. Stalin is the one who made communism look bad... It's funny how communism is great in theory but horrible in practice...

It's not even great in theory, because it's against human nature.
The difficult we do right away... ...the impossible takes slightly longer.

Even when everyone voluntarily adopts communism, things often go wrong. The Pilgrims adopted it but soon abandoned it. This has been written up in various places; here[^] is one of them.

The fox knows many things, but the hedgehog knows one big thing.I am coming specifically from the standpoint of Indian languages. There are so many words in our Indian languages which don't have English equivalents. Therefore, translation will always be somewhat deficient.

The fox knows many things, but the hedgehog knows one big thing.Since I don't know Russian and I also have the Hunt for Red October as a soundtrack I program too, I find your factual comments offensive :) Sung by the Red Army Choir (is that still a thing?) its wonderful. Star Spangled Banner is at the top of my list, but I don't mind the Canadian anthem either (my sons played ice hockey).

My wife is American, and the music to O Canada was used for her high school's song.

The fox knows many things, but the hedgehog knows one big thing.lol. I just like the strong vocals... some songs are just classy. Years ago, we (the family) ran across a video of Les Misérables. I had little kids out in the backyard singing at the top of their lungs as they built barricades. Even took them to the play when it came to Atlanta.
