I was reminiscing about some members who are no longer active on here and thought of the one and only Michael Martin - a constant source of crude, lewd but always amusing drunken posts - did he leave or was he pushed ?

I think he walked, possibly after a deep and meaningful with Chris M. I may still have his phone number somewhere - we met a couple of times years ago.

I liked him , told it like it is - mean what you say and say what you mean - he certainly did and I'm sure he still does

I second your description. As I recall, he had a problem posting Soapbox material in other forums. I don't know whether he jumped or was pushed... Dalek Dave stood for election in the wilds of the UK and has never been heard from since. Nagy Vilmos is still heard from occasionally. Dave Auld has developed another interest (!) - astronomy. He still posts occasionally. Those are the regulars that I remember.

fat_boy posted incessantly about global warming and edited the CodeProject Wikipedia entry to make disparaging comments about other members. Dalek Dave contested elections (twice?) and lost from a right wing safe seat that went left after making disparaging comments about gypsies, when the country as a whole lurched sharply to the right. He also edited Wikipedia but to 'back up' his lie that Ian Botham had died. Curiously enough, the latter was the target of the former, who called him a "desperate vote grabbing accountant". There's also me, who used to make "It's Friday! What are you doing this weekend?" posts, but I'm not really gone ;)

          Cheers, Vikram.

I was also wondering about a character who was active until autumn but hasn't posted since. His last posts were about leaving his job, but I also believe he'd mentioned being ill, so he may no longer be with us.

There was also a member who used to post APOD daily - Astronomy Picture of the Day. Not seen for a long time.

I was the one that pushed him that fateful morning. He was spouting off his usual drivel and I responded in kind with my flame thrower and Epic Troll Hunter armor set. I got banned from the site for 2 weeks and Michael quit the site for good.

To be honest, it was always on the cards that he'd have to tone down or go. And toning down would have meant drinking less, and that wasn't an approach MM really approved of. Remember, we are talking about a guy whose account was closed five times in a single weekend back in the days when the Soapbox was still unrestricted ...

I remember one toxic person, not sure if I remember his name correctly so I won't post it in case it's not him, but he was banned some time ago. Guy had over 200K rep I believe, maybe even over 300K, regular in the Soapbox. He was very Christian, Trump supporter, against abortion and I think against gay marriage as well, as it's the holy union between two people of the opposite sex. If you didn't agree with him he'd call you names (called me something like a murderer who wasn't worthy of the name human because I'm pro-abortion, just like more than 50% of Europeans), but he'd always say it wasn't personal and just his humble opinion. Also, all of his opinions were facts, according to him. Very glad to see him gone and I know I'm not the only one :D My first contact here on CP was with Henry Minute, I think. He answered a question of mine on Custom WinForms Controls. Very nice and helpful guy, he was a regular here too. Guy passed away a couple of years ago, probably close to ten years already, or so someone posted in The Lounge at the time. Very sad indeed :(

I was reminiscing about some members who are no longer active on here and thought of the one and only Michael Martin - a constant source of crude, lewd but always amusing drunken posts - did he leave or was he pushed ?

I was just searching some old posts and saw some by Christian Graus, but he hasn't posted since last summer?

And then there is Mark Wallace (I think that was his name.) Strange fellow. Wonder what happened to him. He once warned me to look out for leftists in the Soapbox.

To be honest, it was always on the cards that he'd have to tone down or go. And toning down would have meant drinking less, and that wasn't an approach MM really approved of. Remember, we are talking about a guy whose account was closed five times in a single weekend back in the days when the Soapbox was still unrestricted ...

Yeah, that was quite a situation.

What do you get when you cross a joke with a rhetorical question? The metaphorical solid rear-end expulsions have impacted the metaphorical motorized bladed rotating air movement mechanism. Do questions with multiple question marks annoy you???
