I got away with naming our first cat "Microwave the cat in orange sauce" because it annoyed the neighbours and Herself was up for that. But the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th were all Herself: Killashandra, Polgara, and Beldin. There are no prizes for guessing what books she was reading at the time. The 5th came with a name: Bill. The current is Dij because it was "short" for "Digital" - as a kitten he was either ON (and doing a Wall of Death round the room) or OFF (and you could have plucked all his fur out and he wouldn't have moved a muscle). An ex boss was told in no uncertain terms that no computing terms were allowed for his dog's name: "Pip" was thought to be fine until a year later SWMBO discovered it was short for "Peripheral Interchange Program". Too late to change by then ... Friends have had pets called "Glitch" and "Cookie" which have sneaked in under the radar. But I never got away with "Five" (from "CAT 5") or "Script" from "Script Kitty". :D What about you? Any Computer / software / tech related pets?

I've considered naming one of my cats "laptop" for obvious reasons. I like when they sit on laptops. It's very meta. The reason I haven't is because I have a thing about naming my cats after tyrants and failed leaders. I had a Maine Coon named Chairman Maow. I currently have a chantilly named Groucho Mugabe - because he's slightly cross eyed and caused an adorable food crisis when we brought him home. I have a friend who named her cats Nixon and Reagan and I thought that was perfect.

I wanna name our next dog "Knuckles". Or "Zero". It remains to be seen if SWMBO will let me have naming rights.

My Pixel (cat) is named after Heinlein's The Cat Who Walks Through Walls since she has a remarkable talent for suddenly appearing out of nowhere.

My wife has 6 cats made from wood. I cut them out, she painted them (she is artist). She gave them names like fluffy. I call them kindling1, kindling2, etc. Then I run for cover.:)

I had two Russian blues for a while, one was named Fearless Fred, the footpad dread, and the one was Nails (he would only attack toe nails as a kitten) My sis has Main Coon cats, all named after liqueurs

Firstly your wife must be awesome for reading the Belgariad. I have named computer systems Durnick, Polgara, Garion etc... I have never ever ever been able to sneak a computer name into a pet or childs name. I had a friend who tried to nickname his first child mulligan (he liked golf and thought he was funny) Knew some people (neighbors former) that named their Daughter Jadzia (star trek DS9) I have been able to middle name one of our dogs after Marvel Comics. Atlas (the Punisher) But that is as close as I have gotten.

Our cat, a boy, is named Simba. Our earlier cat, a girl, was named Cinnamon.

No computer inspired names. My wife had cats named Tess, Seymour and Barney. The cats I brought into the marriage were Caesar and Cleopatra. Not hard to guess my theme. :)

For dogs, Gods and Emperors - Calypso and Titus are our 2 black labs. And yes spoilt rotten and loved by all.

Black cat, and it didn't play nice with the other cat, nor their toddler. He would attack out of nowhere. No small kids here, his behaviour changed in a week. Became affectionate instead of aggressive. He made friends with two dogs, but doesn't allow other cats in the yard.
