Some time ago (2019-2020?), someone posted a message and used a really cool tool to do a screen capture or a video of a screen capture or something... How's that for a vague description? I commented on it, but maybe my cp-google-fu is lacking. Any ideas?

Self hosted Zoom meeting / recording can work as well.

Did you mean 'Snipping Tool'. What you have at Win10 on board...

          I've used GreenShot[^] for years

I've also used GreenShot for years - mostly to copy a region on the screen to paste into Teams chats, and occasionally to get save an image I want to load into Gimp for modification. You can change GreenShot's hotkeys, which is useful when Microsoft decides they want whatever choice you made for their use instead.

I don't know of the thread in question, but I always use ScreenToGif (which can also record to other formats, but if I'd like to put a recording on, eg, a Trello card, then a gif is mighty convenient)

Use the Snipping Tool which will soon be called Snip & Stretch. It allows you to select the portion you want, without having the rest of the screen garbage. It is also useful for snipping photos out of articles.

Someone - I don't recall if it was you, sorry - asked this question a while back and I mentioned Jing from Techsmith. It's now discontinued and no longer supports video capture (since it used .FLV files). However it still works (so long as you don't have an internet connection when it starts up - when it "phones home" and finds it's dead!) and includes ability to annotate grabs; then either keep it in the clipboard or save directly to a file.

I think they just moved the functionality to Snagit. I use that to record screens and audio.

Everyone in our shop uses this: https://www.techsmith.com/[^] We don't use anything else. Costs some money, but not too expensive and worth every penny. Camtasia and Snag-it are the main products from TechSmith we use.

I don't do video captures that often, but I know an entire support team that swears by Snag-it. From what I've seen, it gets the job done without being hard to use.
