    Not to me personally, but there was a particularly annoying reply[^] to one of Dave's answers the other day. A perfectly sensible answer, to which the OP replied with angry vitriol and a suggestion to "not give up the day job". That sort of response to someone who's trying to help is not a good way to encourage more people to help.

        I would have to say that is probably one of the most heinous responses possible. Even seeing it in response to questions I didn't ask raises my hackles.

        I agree it would be heinous ... if only it were true. I think the OP is trying to have a little moan about the quality of the answers they have received to their not particularly clear questions here. TBH as soon as I notice any QA posts from this member I just keep on scrolling past - this is my free time after all and I'm not going to waste it getting insulted. Their reference to Linux is probably because they frequently forget to tag their questions properly or mention which OS they are using in their questions. They also frequently omit detail of code or of the error and tend to get tetchy when given perfectly viable advice e.g. ...back to the bluez ( library )[^] as well as the examples in other comments below.

                Many times it's best to not respond to perceived slights, and move on, or out.

                    It's a valid response to using the wrong tool for the wrong job. The "question" is often not the right one in the first place.

                          In POTS (plain old telephone service ) industry we often said ...the trouble is leaving here fine... And there is the extreme and not funny caller to 911 operator ...help, I am having a hart attack... 911 operator ... I am just fine here...

                                    It was in a previous company too... the problem is, that the insider joke was originated in a real situation with a customer of mine versus the end customer... :doh: :sigh:

                                        If I'm reading the history of this correctly, Dave Kreskowiak gave a simple, direct, one-line answer to 14968771's question. However, Dave's generic signature block -- "Asking questions is a skill" etc. -- is four lines and looks like the bulk of the answer. My guess is that 14968771 didn't recognize that as a signature block, but as a direct specific reply challenging the quality of his particular question, and it went downhill from there. Misunderstanding.
