Twitter Revenue and Usage Statistics (2022) - Business of Apps[^] Twitter has only turned a profit 2 of the last 10 years (2018 & 2019). Cumulatively they're at a $1 billion loss. Obviously, something drastic needed to change - it's simply not sustainable. I'm not saying Musk's approach will work in the long run... I have no idea. I personally find social media (in nearly all it's forms) to be very bad for society - so I'm hoping he fails. But the status quo at Twitter was sure to fail.

That is an effective way of filtering out most of your capable people.

So, QA will soon be inundated with 'Gimme Teh Codez Plz' types of requests?

"the debugger doesn't tell me anything because this code compiles just fine" - random QA comment "Facebook is where you tell lies to your friends. Twitter is where you tell the truth to strangers." - chriselst "I don't drink any more... then again, I don't drink any less." - Mike Mullikins uncle

Nowhere am I advocating status quo. All I suggest is:

                    1. [tell them to] work hard as Elephant and be grateful
                    2. find an idea to work on

seems like the wrong order of things

If he can't fire the number of people he wants to get rid of, get them to choose to quit on their own. Then the company isn't on the hook for any sort of termination compensation. Seems pretty obvious. Someone convince me that wasn't his strategy all along.

Could be, but then I have no idea what ideas he is having them work on. He had publicly mentioned account verification, bringing back Vine and some all-inclusive program "X". Now he mentions Twitter 2.0. It's hard for me to imagine that the man dropped $44 billion only to flush it all away so quickly but... we live in crazy times.

I don't know, when I Google "High Intensity" all I get is HIIT high intensity training (aka working out really hard). Which includes a lot of health benefits from lowered body fat and heart rate, and lowered blood pressure, among others. I can't possibly see any health benefits in working long hours at a high intensity.

I'm still convinced he wants to punish the staff before he sinks the ship. I don't think he had any intention of making this a profitable endeavor, especially since he took it private as well.

While I wouldn't mind seeing Twitter disappear (for the scourge that it is), I don't see how this would ultimately had been his goal, even if he has the money to burn to do it. If that's been his plan all along, then I thank him for taking that bullet. Y'know, for the sake of humanity. Then I would plead for him to do the same to Facebook.
