But perhaps in a less amusing way... Bing said Bard had been shut down, citing a news story about Bard mistakenly saying it had been shut down, which Bard itself sourced to a random Hacker News comment. Google and Microsoft’s chatbots are already citing one another in a misinformation shitshow - The Verge[^]

The media has been doing this (referencing each other) for years. Invariably when you dig into the source you discover that it was either misquoted, taken out of context, or simply not true, but the media has long given up doing their job. These Large Language Learning systems only do it faster and make it more obvious.

So we've reached complete parity with major news outlets already? That was faster than I expected. How much for an annual subscription?

The FBI also did it with the Russian collusion thing. Whether you like or dislike Trump, the Russian collusion allegation was a prime example of a circular reference and in this case they (FBI) knew it all along.

Years? Decades more like. Or even centuries. Or millennium. Written content referencing other written content has been going on for a very long time. After all Plato referenced Socrates.

That is definitely old. At least in the early 1900s in the US the newspapers would make up stories based on nothing at all and then promote them as the truth. They did that to sell newspapers but also to influence public opinion.

If you have to ask that, then they want you to phone them to arrange the account so they can get a sense of how much they want to try and screw you over for!!! :-)

Here is some written content that doesn't reference anything as evidence. Do we like this better?
