Hi, Chris. Since you have a perl section here at Code Project, can you please add a perl forum in the programming forum section. I don't think it is a lot of work. Just add a new forum for perl. Please ... Thanks ! :)

I think that's an excellent idea. How about making it for scrpting languages generally ( Perl/Python/Ruby), so that I can ask my Python questions on it ? ;) Christian As I learn the innermost secrets of the around me, they reward me in many ways to keep quiet. Yes, general forum for scripting languages is a very good idea.

I would monitor a forum on Perl and PHP, both of which i'd like to use much more of. These feel like much better languages to invest self-taught time on as they should be very portable, unlike ASP which i'm moving away from. A good start on such a list could be a little into to some other languages which most of us haven't had a chance to adopt by those who have. Like why use Python/Ruby, what are they mainly used for and why ? would be useful info to find out.

I am vaguely aware of Ruby, I mentioned it only because I knew *of* it and was pushing towards a forum for scripting languages in general. Python is a more object oriented Perl, ( that is a little simplistic, but better OO is one reason we used it ), we use it because we're writing a scriptable engine for a 3D app. For example, my job at the moment is to write GUI classes in Win32 and link them to the Python interpreter, writing Python classes so we can use/derive from them to create a GUI on the fly, and have events handled in Python. I've not used Perl, but I do know we assumed we would use Perl until we looked closely at Ruby and Python. I posted in depth in the forum a while ago on the merits of Python, a search for Python might yield my post. I'd reiterate, but I was just typing what the guys told me, I was not involved in the project when the decision was made. So what should it be called? "Perl"?, "Perl et al."? "Perl/Python/PHP etc"? cheers, Chris Maunder (CodeProject)

It should be called "Perl/Python/PHP etc." or simply "Scripting Languages" or 1 forum for each one would be the best bet.

I like "Scripting Languages" myself. --Mike-- http://home.inreach.com/mdunn/ Ford: How would you react if I said that I'm not from Guildford after all, but from a small planet somewhere in the vicinity of Betelguese? Arthur: I don't know. Why, do you think it's the sort of thing you're likely to say?
