Chicken misadventures

I have little Houdinis Hendinis. I think animals are compromising the fence around the chicken run because they keep finding ways to escape. They like eating grass, so they're always trying to get out of their run. Grass won't grow wherever chickens are because they scratch at it and eat it until it's gone from the roots, so their run doesn't have any. The other day, the neighbors dog was loose and cornered my escaped chickens. I have anxiety and am prone to panic attacks, and I had to talk myself down from one quickly and chase after the dog. I twisted my ankle in the process. It still hurts. Himself went to LA to a conference for 4 days, and every day the chickens were getting out. I had my head on a swivel, was getting paranoid and really anxious. I was miserable the whole time. It got to the point where I insisted we get rid of the chickens. That's a fight I wasn't winning, so I at least am making him set up Wyze cams in the run. Because I already have WSL running and Wyze only works on Android or iOS I got Windows Subsystem for Android running, and apps sideloaded from google store. I now can run linux, android, and windows apps like native applications. It's brilliant.

The issue is there seem to be animals - I suspect raccoons, much as I love them breaching the perimeter. So every day it's a potential surprise, a new escape spot. It's quite awhile to do a full perimeter check, and even when I have, I've missed some hard to see spots. The solution we're going with is cameras. They don't wander far quickly. All I need to do is as soon as I find they are missing (things get quiet out my window) roll back the cameras and see how they got out. Edit: They are remarkably stupid animals, with very short memories, and gluttony overrides any good sense they might otherwise have. Ergo, it is easy to lure them back with dried grubs. :-D

I all seriousness, CodeProject AI Server connected to one of several home automation applications might solve your problem. @sean-ewington has written several such articles. I have one that trained a model that detected Racoons, Skunks, Dogs, Cats, Squirrels, ... With the right configuration, you could turn on a bright light, sound a siren, or make a Scarecrow move. Right but the chickens are locked up in the coop at night when the raccoons are about. I think they're just breaking into the run itself.
