I own an original, US copy of this game and while looking through my old CDs a few weeks ago, I wanted to take it for a spin, having played this game the last time many-many years ago. When I tried installing and running the game now, I encountered exactly the same issues as you did.
I was not prepared for "a 21-year-old obscure PC game" to be for Windows XP.

M.D.V. ;) If something has a solution... Why do we have to worry about?. If it has no solution... For what reason do we have to worry about? Help me to understand what I'm saying, and I'll explain it better to you Rating helpful answers is nice, but saying thanks can be even nicer.
