Epson printers are crap
-
I have a Canon printer\copier\scanner combo in my home office. love it. had it for 4+ years now, I think. Had Epson year's ago. hate it. my wife hates them too. lots of hate there. Canon Image Class MF 232w
And my Canon printer randomly powers up with some generic "B200" error...or might work perfectly fine, with no apparent cause for one or the other. Sometimes powering it on/off 20 times in a row (when it starts reporting that error) might make it go away, but last time I tried, I had to give up. Might be fine again the very next time I try it, there's just no telling.

I only had one issue to speak of, and that was my scanning software stopped working after a Win11 update. I had to wait about a month for a new scanner software update to download and install. all good after that.

I bought an ET-2800 a couple months ago, and at this point, I can't print anything because the paper constantly jams. Tried doing the various "cleaning" options. Never going to by an Epson again. If I weren't so environmentally conscious, I would get great pleasure in throwing the printer down the ravine and watching it break into pieces. Maybe I'll get out the sledge hammer and vent my frustration. And no, getting it "repaired" isn't on my list, as I'm sure the problem will just return after a 100 pages or so of printing.

Always loved my Canons. Not perfect, but well better than HP. I haven't owned an Epson.

Always have been, though I hope they're better than the crappy 9-pin dot-matrix rubbish they used to peddle.
Dot matrix printers are worth a mint if you have them. Put it on e-bay. A lot of small businesses still use carbon copy, and inkjet and laser don't work on that.

Sounds like you got a bad one or something. Or you have some kind of software based rubbish going on. My canons have been pretty reliable. One exception is when my cat finally caught the monster that lived inside the printer. It hasn't worked right since. Still works though, but needs love.

But only if it's a good quality one, not Epson. Epsons virtually arrive broken in the box from the factory.

My cheap Cannon works like a charm for the last 10 years. And we feed it with the cheapest cartridges on the market.

Try working in an office with four DECwriters (LA120) which supported the printing needs of a small office building.

A Lightweight Thread Safe In-Memory Keyed Generic Cache Collection Service A Dynamic Where Implementation for Entity FrameworkI found Epson to be one of the better inkjets, with no feed problems unless you use the really cheap / thin paper - I switched to 90gsm as my standard and never had a problem with jams. What I hated was the half an hour clean / purge / test print / swear cycle I had to go through each time I needed to print, plus the Epson fun and games of cartridge expiry / not recognised. So I threw it to the recycle centre and got a Samsung laser which I plug in, print, and unplug - it works every single time and it prints faster. I think it's cheaper to run as well given how many ink cartridges I binned.

A Lightweight Thread Safe In-Memory Keyed Generic Cache Collection Service A Dynamic Where Implementation for Entity FrameworkSorry to hijack your thread, but the subject of printer issues is somewhat relevant and it's a true story that happened just a few days ago. When I got to the office Saturday morning, I found that my weekly notes were handwritten, not printed as usual. In the handwritten notes she explained that the printer was down...she stayed late trying to get the daily reports and my notes printed. Could I please fix it? I spent the next hour trying everything I could think of to get the printer and PC talking again...nothing worked. It was the simplest of all printer connections...a usb cable! :wtf: What could be wrong? I swapped USB ports on the PC...nothing...not even a ding... OK, that's a clue! Even though the other end of the USB cable was plugged in, it was plugged into the RJ-45 jack on the printer! :wtf:  I didn't even know that was possible! Plugged the cable into the USB port on the printer and voila!... all the test pages I hadn't cancelled came streaming out!

I had to fix a printer for a friends mother a few weeks ago - simple fix, just press "OK" on the printer - but first I had to cancel the 83 copies of the same document in the print queue ... :sigh:

It builds character, no? Was anyone there approached by the CIA? Being immune to torture would be a plus for that profession. :)

The office was also kept at 50F, the same as the adjoining computer room. I can say no more.

The CIA recruited those who specified the DECwriters for that office, and kept it at 50°F (10°C). Everyone eventually breaks under torture, but torturers who have no empathy for their victims are really hard to find. :)

A Lightweight Thread Safe In-Memory Keyed Generic Cache Collection Service A Dynamic Where Implementation for Entity FrameworkJust an aside - I’m an old-ish fart (~60 y/o) and have been making a conscious effort to reduce or eliminate printing whenever possible. Never really been the tree hugger type but I am fairly frugal and prefer a clean desk. At first, every time I thought about printing something I’d gave it some serious thought… 80% of the time I’d end up not printing and going a different route. Now its a much lower percentage because I almost never think about printing. I’m not trying to talk anyone out of printing or implying that you don’t need to. Certainly not virtue signaling. Just waxing nostalgic I guess. Again “old fart”…
