ArXiv is to my knowledge not peer-reviewed, so you will have to use your own brain to review the information. Which might be difficult (read: a lot of work) :)

Today some physicists created ambient temperature superconductivity. If true this is watershed moment for our species. Edit: Kenneth H. found this: https://arxiv.org/abs/2307.12008[^] (not peer reviewed yet)

It's one of those things I really don't understand the use. The only time I see something related to superconductivity, they are levitating something. I'll go educate myself.

Cool! I can't wait to read the whole report. You're right, though; this changes everything, if we can get it from the lab to the real world. Now where did I put my lead apatite...

It changes computing. It's like the invention of the transistor. That order of magnitude, maybe more in terms of what it allows us to do with silicon. Supercomputing at your desktop. Supercomputers that make the current ones look like toys. And quantum computing.

Yes, yes, that's all very nice. Now where's my flying car and my vacation home in zero gravity?

If it works, how much does it cost to make? Of course, once one room temperature superconducting material is found it's only a matter of time before more are manufactured and the price goes down. Then you get maglev, quantum computing, etc without the need for expensive low temperature cooling.

I think I'd settle for "slight bend" drives

I accept no substitutes. Full Star Trek-style warp drives, or nothing!
