Asus support talked about repair cost unknown It is 11 yo So I have been looking at Asus PA279 CRV $419.00 free shipping link below ProArt Display PA279CRV｜Monitors｜ASUS USA[^] Advice is repair really a sane idea ? I have the original box. Does anyone have experience with Asus Monitors ? Other monitor recommendations welcomed. I mostly went with BenQ, their 27" Screen did the Job for me so far, never had anything else since i bought my first one and i am gaming as well. Seems like prices for vendors that have a name mostly vary between 200€-400€ for most of their screens.

No repair. You are talking about a 12 yo monitor. It won't be worth it, plus you'll be amazed at how much better a new monitor is. The link you provided looks like a sweet new monitor. I don't like HUGE monitors, 25" is my sweet spot, but the industry moved on to the 27" for whatever reason. My favorite monitor to date is a Dell Ultrasharp U2515 - 25", 2560x1440 - right in the sweet spot for size and coding. Sadly, Dell moved on to the 27" size.

I know monitor manufacturers tend to charge a premium for "color accuracy", but IMO unless you're seriously into printing photos and the like, where color on the screen absolutely *must* match a printed version...it's not worth the extra money. For that sort of money, you could have a much bigger, but also 4K, regular TV that you can use as a monitor. Besides, 4K at 27" is kinda wasted, since you'll be rescaling everything.

Aren't you better off with 2 smaller (and cheaper) monitors? I was thinking that I also "wanted" 1 big screen but now I have 2nd hand 23 inch monitors, giving me a total width of 1 meter where a 27inch is just 67cm. I tried a 27 inch screen but I just kept resizing windows, now I just drag it to one of the screens (or laptop screen) and double click for full screen mode. Ok, I know that PowerToys has a great tool for that (fancy zones) but it kept popping up when not needed. But I guess it all depends on what you use the screen for :)

Go new. You picked out a nice display. You should look into some monitor calibration software/hardware so you can be sure it's color accurate when you're editing photos. Also, you'll be able to plug your peripherals into it without any issues. :)
The biggest problem with new monitors is that you have to get quite large in order to get anything more than 1080 pixels vertically. All monitors effectively shrank once the HDMI television standard was developed. I have a collection of Samsung monitors that are all 1200 pixels in the vertical dimension, and I have no intention of moving away from them. My main station has four monitors on it, and having that much real estate is fantastic.

Personally, I ditched the multi-monitor setup for "one big monitor" a few years ago and haven't looked back. Especially on Windows since snapping easily lets me use my monitor as it it's two just by smacking the windows against one of the sides. I have a 43" LG 4K monitor and it's freakn' awesome for getting work done. I wouldn't recommend it for gaming or even watching movies from your desk. When I use it with my Mac, I have do to some re-sizing, but it's not too bad.

Price is higher as it is an IPS panel which offer a greater color gamut. Downfall is that they generally have a slower refresh rate (I believe it has gotten better though).

I work in print and we need to be color accurate to match customers expectations. Heh, the monitor I use at work cost $1,300 and self calibrates. The OP stated that he likes to work with photos so he might like to have that option for him. :)

I doubt Asus makes the monitor, and it's just glass made by somebody, perhaps sourced from Viewsonic that has been packaged and branded Asus. I use the Dell U2719 at the office, U2722 at home. The last 2 digits represent the year of design, thus 22 means 2022. I'm very happy with them, but they are not 4K monitors, they are 2.5K or 2K plus. I chose Dell because I use Dell computers and don't build my own anymore. The only bummer is the new Dell soundbar which sounds terrible, like an old AM radio from the 70s.
