Need Vocabulary Lesson: Handwriting on PC

What is the name of the device that allows you to put your own handwriting onto a graphics area of the screen of your own computer ? i.e., You take a stylus of some sort and press it against a screen like an Android tablet or something, and then there on your desktop computer screen, you see a reproduction of your own handwriting Now that I think of it, I could probably bet that somebody probably has already written an app that will do exactly that on an Android tablet and connect with a USB cable and put it on the desktop computer screen. But That's just me guessing. What I **don't** know is the name of the stuff, the nomenclature, who makes it, and the biggie: How to search for it and look for it on the internet or Google Play Store or whatever. I will give a 1973 Corvette Stingray to anyone who can tell me where to find this kind of stuff.

This kind of thing? [Amazon link](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=computer+graphics+tablets) I think they were just called tablets before the Android variety appeared. Wacom is the only brand I've heard of.

Adding to what Indivara says, 'Wacom' is definitely the keyword. I had a no-name drawing tablet with stylus years ago, USB interface. Software always reported it as Wacom. My current laptop is a Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5, a convertible. (Turn it inside out and it becomes a tablet.) It has a stylus which works in PC or tablet mode, again identified as Wacom.

I always knew them as "graphics tablets", and that's certainly what the worlds biggest manufacturer of them (Wacom) called them - now it refers to them as "pen tablets" which makes a lot more sense. Mine is pressure sensitive as well and you could program that in most graphics apps to control stroke width, colour density, or whatever you wanted. (It's still connected to my PC, but I haven't used it in a decade, I think.)

I'm not quite sure where this fits, but remember that when Microsoft's Surface originally came out, they were heavily promoting its so-called "ink" capability as a big thing, as in, the display surface of the device itself doubled as a place for you to draw on directly.

Works well when your system has write-only memory (WOM)[^]. One rather venerable implementation can be found here[^].
