Reminds me of a incident from about half a century ago. Right-ponders use the term "belt and braces" to describe conservative action - built-in backup. (Left-ponders may say "belt and suspenders", I don't know.) I was discussing an electronics engineer's work with his boss, commented on what I thought was over-design. The reply was "Mike doesn't just wear belt and braces, he stuffs helium balloons in his pants pockets!" Still remember it all these years later.

Test: If you wear the pants without the belt, do they fall down? If you wear the belt without the pants, does it fall down? Aside -- I mostly wear a belt to keep the holster for my phone from falling.
