Home Sweet Home again

This is a follow up to my earlier post about Dutch truck drivers[^]. I just want to say that the Germans and Belgians are definitely better drivers than the Dutch. Driving the German autobahn was actually quite a pleasant experience. I found that while some cars go crazy fast, most are quite respectable and go a decent speed. And even the crazy fast ones will slow down and keep their distance when they caught up to me if I happened to be passing another vehicle, and would wait till I cleared the fast lane before accelerating off. All in all, a very pleasant experience. That is until I got back into the Netherlands, what a gong show that countries drivers are. It's good to home again.

The German police seems to think so too, after returning from my holiday in the Mosel region I got a fine for speeding near Aachen X| Luckily they did not notice my driving on pavements :-\

You should try Mexico. In Mexico hazard signals mean "I'm about to do something profoundly stupid with my car, so watch out"

I loved driving in Germany. 99% of the drivers follow 99% of the rules... and the other 1% follow 100% of the rules! What a breeze! Some friends and I drove 880 kilometers (550 miles) in 4 hours actual travel time, setting off at 0400 and arriving at 0900 with two stops for petrol and one for breakfast. No incidents, no scares, smooth driving the whole way. We even had a German police car politely move out of our way when we signalled that we wanted to overtake. The slowest part of the journey was when we went over the border into the Netherlands and had to slow down (stupid speed limits!)
