How in the hell did it happen so fast?

Last month was my 15th wedding anniversary. Today, I mark a year closer to death. I look back on my 20s - half a lifetime ago and wonder where the time went. Our youngest flower girl at our wedding is old enough to drink now. She was 6. I can feel the old in my bones. I vowed to give up aging, but it's a tough habit to break.

Heck, if it were easy to give up aging, I think we'd all be doing it. ;)
The difficult we do right away... ...the impossible takes slightly longer.

Congrats on the 15. You're in the prime of your life, wait until you wake up one day and your hair is gray and you have no teeth.

Oh I have had a witch mark - a flowing silver streak in my hair since my twenties.

I knew I was getting old when I arrived at our Cub Scout pack's annual roundup and one of the dads who was getting his son started had been in my son's den. This was a decade ago.
I became a great-uncle three times over the day I married, over half a century ago. (Considerable skew between my family and hers - her oldest sister married before my parents did.) Those kids are probably grandparents by now... Not sure I'll live to be a great-grandfather. Oldest grandkid is only 13.

oh hush - laughing but somewhat sad, I'll explain. you need some perspective. I just passed my 46th anniversary dealing with my MIL who broke her hip. She's insane, full dementia, and we're trying to get doctors to see that. It's brutal. My wife is my high school sweetheart. Yeah, old school. When I was young, I always wondered where I would be when the year 2000 came. I'd be 41. I did not see reality on the radar. Fast forward to 2000, and I had 10 children, in the middle of a house addition disaster etc. In 2002 and 2003 two of my sons enlisted. First one was infantry, the other armor, and everything you might have seen and more in Afghanistan and Iraq they did. My wife damn near chewed her tongue off with worry. We got a satellite phone call from somewhere in Afghanistan, and my son said, if no one is on your doorstep, I'm out hunting the f*ckrs. Today we had a school shooting in Georgia. My youngest daughter was a first responder as a paramedic. "Today, I mark a year closer to death." I call bullshit on the nihilism. And I mean it as a blessing. I cannot even begin to comprehend the code you've written. You are doing some amazing work. I don't know you personally other than your posts, but I suspect like the rest of us there are things on your life list that you have always wanted to do but could not get to it. Pick one and go do it. Chin up, courage, send pictures. I now have 14 grandchildren, 5 ggc that I know of... courage..

I believe medical "profession" has names for all of aging "sickens", but I find the worst one to be not been able to remember what was my last meal... And they always ask about that... My "technical" opinion is - whatever it was , it worked...so what is the problem?

Age is not always the time between now and your birth. Your spirit can override it. ;) Happy Birthday.

oh, yeah, I went on and on but congrats on 15. In my family and the one I married into, my mom and dad went 35 until he passed. My direct in-laws are now 88 and 86 and passed 65 years, their parents went nearly 70. Recommendation since I know you are a tech head goober - take time to maintain the relationship. Find something to do together. That's marriage advice for all of you. I seduced my bride by taking her sailing. Then college was over and then children and life. Maintaining the family (get off the roof you idiot) is not marriage maintenance. I have to clean the garage, wait what toilet is backing up???! is not marriage maintenance. Dig deep and figure out ambushes for love. Do something stupid. Have a PLAN. Don't let life inconveniences into your decision loop. Sorry, I seem to be talking to myself. This elder care is killing me with stress.

Congrats. The first 60 are the toughest! (63 here). She is still my bride and the love of my life. I tell her so.

Sadly that only works, when the other part also wants to do what you search for... :(
