Thanks to all of you who responded to my original post. I feel slightly more informed to ask a better question. My domain name is pjksolutions.com Jeremy Falcon informs me my domain is registered with Tucows My email is hosted by webhosting.uk.com I want rid of webhosting.uk.com So my new question is: How can I keep my domain email addresses e.g. pete@pjksolutions.com etc.. I have 6 but have them hosted by someone else I also want the data from all accounts migrated - it's IMAP Hope this is clearer thanks Pete Kane

Never tried this, but here is how I would go about it. I assume you found a new DNS provider and mail host. 1. Register a new temporary domain with the new DNS registrar, say temppjk.com 2. Configure the new mail hosting server to accept mail to temppjk.com 3. In your mail client add the newly configured account and copy all mail from old account to the new one. 4. Transfer pjksolutions.com domain to new DNS registrar. The steps involved would be: - notify your current registrar that you want to transfer. - obtain from the the authorization transfer code (the EEP code) - give this code to the new registrar to complete the transfer 5. Configure new mail hosting server to accept mail for pjksolutions.com 6. In your mail client transfer now the mail back from temppjk.com to pjksolutions.com The only step I'm certain of, having tried it in the past is step 4 (DNS registrar transfer). For the rest, your mileage may vary. :)

Not to be that guy  , but just pointing this out to save him some headaches.... Depending on the host, they may provide him with one that's temporary without the need to buy a throw away domain.

You are right but if you choose a domain on on of the lower cost TLDs, a one year registration could be under 20$. Not a showstopper, me thinks.

Here's the step-by-step, in order, for your particular situation. Not gonna get fancy and assume a different registrar or talk about white labeling... 1. Find a new host. Don't worry about a temp domain unless the host forces you to get one, and if they do... I'd find a different host. For the sake of this post, let's call the new host Pink Bunny. 2. Configure email hosting over at Pink Bunny using IMAP. The host will most likely handle the MX records for you with one of their domains. 3. Create a `pete` inbox at Pink Bunny. 4. Using whatever email client you use, export everything in your `pete` inbox at webhosting.uk.com. 5. Import it to your `pete` inbox at Pink Bunny. 6. Tell webhosting.uk you want to transfer pjksolutions.com to Pink Bunny. If they talk about losing email tell them to stuff it because you live on the edge. Let any clients know your email may be down for a day or so while this happens. You'll probably need to initiate this at Pink Bunny too. There will be a section somewhere about transferring a domain to them. 7. Once the transfer is complete, expect to wait up to 48 hour (rarely takes that long, but could) for DNS to propagate. Just don't be shocked if peeps have a problem emailing you for the next couple of days. 8. Change the domain used for `pete` over at Pink Bunny to pjksolutions.com. More MX fun again, but Pink Bunny will probably handle this for you. 9. After you confirmed the new email is working, shut down your webhosting.uk account and never look back. If you wanna get fancy in the future so you'll have zero downtime for stuff like this, we can have that chat over a virtual .

That's why I said headache and not money. They could make him jump through hoops by having another domain in the mix. Btw, made a typo... I said host when I meant domain. Still haven't had my coffee yet.

Oh, keep in mind `pete` is just one inbox/email account. If you have several, you'll need to import and export all of them (assuming they're not just aliases). But, as long as they're all IMAP, no worries.
