Our Community's Existential Crisis

No it isn't, it is in the hands of whoever pays the bills of the server center. Period. As long as the site exists, the community will stay, if the owners change, you will have little to no control beyond your own behaviour.

I can't agree with you on that. Consider how the finances needed to pay the bills are obtained to begin with. The business model relies on advertising revenue. What incentivizes advertisers to spend their money to advertise here? It's the visitors, and especially the repeat visitors to the site. The majority of repeat visitors to this website are its members. What is it that incentivizes all visitors to visit? It's the content. Who generates the content? Members generate the content. If there were no members generating fresh content, would people visit the site? If there are no visitors to the site, would advertisers have any incentive to advertise on the site? If there are no advertisers to generate revenue for the site to operate, how would those who pay the bills obtain the revenue to keep the site up and running? This business model cannot function without the site's members. While money is the bottom line, there can be no money without members. Members have all the leverage, and the vast majority of members don't realize it.

Don't do it, it is a free net. About the rest of your message, I get your point. But you / we still have little power, the usual peeps here are maybe a couple of hundreds, the rest of the users database are not participating the same way and it will be the heel of difficult to try to move them. The good clima in CP is due in great part to the staff that has been watching over the site for so long. There have been more than similarities with other toxic places in the net during the past. It was Chris, Sean and some of the usual members who managed the situations and stablished these good vibes as a standard.

I appreciate the fact that you're taking the time and effort to provide me with your constructive criticism. Now that you have provided me with your insights, I realize that my cognition is in fact garbage. I now realize that you are the authority of absolute truth. You have earned the entitlement to unconditionally dictate to me what I am required to believe, how I must reason, and what opinions I must hold. If I fail to meet your high standards, then I am not worth the time and effort you have taken to instill me with your superior moral authority. If you deem me to be overly emotional, I haven't the right to disagree. I apologize for my lack of maturity. Your ability to judge what kind of person I am is astonishing. What do you believe you have accomplished by spewing your vitriol all over the place in a public forum? Because you cannot manage your pent-up frustrations, does this give you the right to insult and condemn others? Are you demonstrating what it is to be mature? No. Does your emotionally charged rant set a good example of how to manage your emotions properly? No. Is cowering behind your keyboard while throwing a petulant fit demonstrate the ability to understand viewpoints that don't align with your own? No. So, what have you achieved here? If your intention was to decimate any respect I ever had for you, then congratulations. You have succeeded. I find it disappointing. Up until now, I actually believed you had some good character.

I'm going to agree with you here. It works kind of a like workplace - where the employer takes point in setting the culture and tone, because they have the most power, at least in the abstract sense of it. Basically, they steer the boat. And it works that way here too. The kind of people you have in charge makes or breaks a place.

Yeah, someone non-nonchalantly defends celebrating someone dying over a website and I'm the bad person for calling it childish and garbage. Not. Zero respect for that Nelek. If you have to think I'm wrong for that, then so be it. Right is right and that is wrong. That's disgusting behavior. Which btw, is what I was attacking... the behavior. You may want to read that again. But I am convinced this place is overrun with overgrown hateful little children who never leave the house. So, there's that...

I only skimmed the first paragraph and last paragraphs. I care not what you think man. I do not need or desire your respect as you've already lost mine by virtue of this nonsense. I don't expect much from you except arguing... like a child.
