      @pkfox Ok, I've looked at the clue but not the solution you posted (honest). Here's my solution.

      Show appreciation for a very quiet boy around turn (7)

      Definition: Show appreciation for

      A = A
      Very quiet = PP
      Boy = LAD
      Turn = U
      A PP LAD around (surrounds) U

      APPLAUD

      Now I'll peek at the solution to see how I did.

          P in crossword parlance is quiet for pianissimo (music) so PP very quiet (poetic license)

            @PIEBALDconsult In cryptic crossword clues quiet translates to P. In music piano means quiet and is denoted as P. Very quiet is pianissimo or PP. It's one of the many oddities in cryptic clues. It's taken me quite a while to pick up on a lot of them and I still have a lot to learn.
