A coworker just dropped 3 PCs on my desk to install software on.:~ So, I have to hook up each one, and login. AFTER each login, it tells me it has found new hardware and needs to reboot. Why can't it see the hardware BEFORE I log in? (I'd include bad symbols here, but it's the Lounge) Where's that newscaster on Futurama when I need him to crush my enemies? Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored Aldous Huxley (1894 - 1963)

I have found at least one scenario in each of the following that has required me to reboot. 1. Install software. 2. Uninstall software. 3. Start a service. 4. Stop a service. 5. Add hardware. 6. Remove hardware. 7. Change settings. 8. Do a Windows Update. I'm sure I'm missing a few. It's pretty sad when you think about it.. there are OSes out there that allow you to change the kernel, while it's running, and not reboot. :| "When a man sits with a pretty girl for an hour, it seems like a minute. Oddly enough, that account is often the System account, which can run even when nobody is logged in. "When a man sits with a pretty girl for an hour, it seems like a minute. Because only the system administrator - or someone with those priveledges - should have authorization to do such things. I'd bet that you wouldn't be warned of such issues if you logged onto the computer with a standard User account that didn't have Local Admin rights. I could be wrong though... unfortunately I don't have the setup to test it... -- Russell Morris "So, broccoli, mother says you're good for me... but I'm afraid I'm no good for you!" - Stewy

I believe that the hardware profile is loaded after logon so that different users can have different configurations. Annoying, isn't it?;P
