How long do you think Microsoft will wait before updating the Manhatten flight area graphics for the new skyline?

I heard a whole bunch of movies are being pulled (or held back a while) because of all this. In particular the Spiderman trailer has been pulled because in the background there's a shot of the twin towers. cheers, Chris Maunder (CodeProject)

I just read about that. There's a Arnold film about a terrorist that blows up an LA skyscraper that's being pulled. They're recalling all advertising (posters, billboards, etc.) The spiderman one is pulled, but they say that scene was only made for the trailer so the movie is still on. Some TV station is replacing a showing of 'Independence Day' with 'Mrs. Doubtfire' because of the imagry of the building being destroyed. There are also several TV series that were scheduled to air this fall that deal with terrorism that are under consideration for being scrapped. I don't remember the exact quote, but one executive basically said, 'we've been conjuring with fantasy, but now that it's real, who want to watch more of it.' When religion and politics help drive the same cart, they tend to drive faster and faster until it is too late to stop when they see the cliff ahead -- Frank Herbert.

I believe the Spiderman trailer had him catching some crooks by spinning a web between the two towers. As someone already mentioned, it was only for the trailer, so the movie is still OK. I also heard that some hyper-polical rap group was set to release an album that depicted the WTC towers being blown up w/ the lead singer pressing the plunger. It's been pulled, of course. I wonder what they're going to do with the new series "24" with Keifer Sutherland. It was one of the most anticipated series of the new season, but given the subject matter, I don't know if they will air it. God damned terrorists. Nick Carruthers

The new Jackie Chan movie will be re-tooled. It was going to be about terrorist trying to blow up The Statue of Liberty. Unfortunately, the article pointed out that given Hollywood's history, it won't be long before we see movie exposing the pain and anguish of the event in excruciating detail. God, that makes me sick just thinking about it. Tim Smith Descartes Systems Sciences, Inc.

Ahhh... the TV 'movie of the week'. Bad plot, bad acting. Yeah, we don't need a 'tribute' like that for an event like this.... "das leid schlaft in der maschine" -Einstürzende Neubauten

The sad bit is that the largest movie audience in the world just happens to also be the majority victims of the events. Being cynical as usual I can guarantee that when this movie is released (and as you said it won't be long, just after the retaliation strike so that the movie has a happy ending) the people calling it sick will be the people standing in line to watch it. We (humans) are a screwed up collection of genes and tissue culture you know that? regards, Paul Watson Cape Town, South Africa e: paulmwatson@email.com w: vergen.org

There is a big (well, not BIG) debate in America right now about should sports be played soon. (Most all have been delayed until Monday now). The humanitarian school of thought is that you want to respect the dead. Which you can't really argue against. The other school of thought is that people need to move on with their lives which can be done without disrespecting the dead. I probably fall into the second camp. I was back at work the next day working hard and not about to let these guys stop my life. But everyone deals with the pain differently. (Minor ramble here. Not to be taken to seriously. But it is something I think about every once in a while.) But one thing that does concern me about a very small portion of the first camp is what I call emotional vampirism. Probably a better term would be emotions by proxy. It seems to be fueled by the mass media. Of course, most all of us need to grieve. What concerns me are the people who are obsessed with experiencing the emotions of others or falsely generated emotions from media. Tim Smith Descartes Systems Sciences, Inc.

The thing that got to me with the whole sports situation was the athletes complaining about "not wanting to work after this tragedy". As Tim said, everyone else, save for those who no longer had a place to work, was back the next day. If the argument had been "we aren't playing out of respect, we don't feel it'd be right to have a celebratory event", I'd be fine with that, but not wanting to resume work? Unless they personally lost someone, then the circumstances are the same as with all the rest of us.

There needs to be a mourning period out of respect, after that everyone needs to get on with life, painful or not. Michael Martin Pegasystems Pty Ltd Australia martm@pegasystems.com +61 413-004-018 "Don't belong. Never join. Think for yourself. Peace" - Victor Stone
