Thanks to the guys at Red vs. Blue I found out that you can get a free 7-day, no credit card needed, trial to Planetside. The downside is that you have to download a 1.4GB file just to try it. http://www.fileplanet.com/files/120000/127374.shtml[^] James "I despise the city and much prefer being where a traffic jam means a line-up at McDonald's" Me when telling a friend why I wouldn't want to live with him

A 1.4GB download for a 7 day trial? It'd take some people that long just to download the damn thing... :~ Just doesn't seem worth it

True, but if you have the time/space it beats paying $50 or $60 for the game just to find out you don't like it. I've been tempted to pick it up a few times just to see what it is like, but I'm not real fond of MMORPGs unless I have a core set of friends that I play with. This will let me see how much I have to rely on "grouping" or playing directly with others in order to get enjoyment out of the game. If you know anyone with the game, you can use their CDs and a special 7 day trial code that also comes with it. Sony's got a pretty good thing going on here, it's like a crack dealer giving his customers a free sample for their friends. I got hooked on a friend's trial account, then had to run out and buy my own copy. This is the game that finally pulled me away from EverQuest after 4 years. I like it because I can just jump in and play for a short time, then get out again without feeling like I'm falling behind. EQ is very hard to play that way. Planetside still has quite a few issues, but if you can find your niche it's a real blast. I doubt it will hold my attention for as long as EQ did (in fact I'm pretty sure I'll go back to EQ some day), but it is a fun diversion.

Cool, I wasn't aware of that :) David Kentley wrote: This is the game that finally pulled me away from EverQuest after 4 years. I *just* started playing EQ. I got bored of everything I had and wanted to play something like a MUD but graphical, EQ seemed the best fit to that :) So far I'm glad I tried it, I have two characters on the Newbie server a paladin and a wizard. So far the Wizard gets more play because it is easier to kill with, but I'll eventually get back to the paladin.
