    The thing that has surprised me the most is the number of people I know affected directly by this - and I'm 15,000km away! A very close friend's brother lost one of his best friends in the building, and another friend's sister is now a widow because her husband was on one of the planes. I've got a ton of friends in the finance industry and the stories there are just too depressing. It makes me think of the game '6 degrees of separation'.
