I don't know. When I went down to New Orleans for a 3 night bende...erm, I mean conference (thanks Duke), I brought my tablet down. The keyboard interface and everything makes it much more laptop like, but much more versitile. I think it has potential. People in the airport were stopping and asking me about it and everything. <---signature---> Your kid gets into Duke. You pay the tuition. That tuition goes into my checking account. My money in my checking account goes into beer, porn, and other such fun. Thank you :)
Cool, Yeah i actually just got the Toshiba one. It's got the rotating screen so that you can use it as a tablet, or flip the screen up and rotate it and it takes on the form of a normal laptop. Yeah, that came out about a month after I got my Motion one. But I do like the Motion model. The USB Keyboard/Mouse feature's nice to set up on a desk somewhere, one downside isthe fact it doesn't work as well on an airplane if you want to type. <---signature---> Your kid gets into Duke. They don't appear to be much different than the windows tablet pc's that NEC and Compaq among others sold circa 1993 to 1996, smaller, but apparently pretty much do all the same things. They didn't take off then, but with enough marketing almost anyone can be convinced something is new and useful. Obviously the handwriting recognition, processor speed etc must be all better by many orders of magnitude, but what does it really *do* for you that is worthwhile? ------------

Personally for me, it's a big help w/ what I do around the place I work at when on call. Exactly, you are the ideal target demographic for a tablet, but how many people really fit into that category among the general computing population? I think most business computer users, if they want portable network access or email, database etc, would prefer it in a pocket pc format if it's for casual use. Something you can whip out of a pocket or purse and quickly check then toss back in again. ------------

If I had the money to spare, I would have one. Sure wish they would get the weight and thickness down though. It would only be to run certian applications syncing with the desktop when at home. I really don't understand why the media has been so hard one them, I thought we would have seen them years ago. Now if they can get E-Ink going, I could have a tablet PC that is about as think as a peice of heavy stock paper ;) Rocky Moore <><

After spending way too much time walking around conferences, offices, airports etc trying to use a laptop one armed I've become a convert. All I need now is, well, a TabletPC. cheers, Chris Maunder

But, for me personally (who is obviously a different type of user than Chris), I write at least a few hundreds of lines of code or long articles whenever I sit down at my computer, the tablet pc concept is pretty useless. I don't use it in conferences, offices, or airports. And I have never needed to use my laptop one-armed. (Though I wonder what the difference between a tablet PC and a handheld is if you just want to use it to write notes.) ------------------------------------------ The ousted but stubbornly non-dead leader reportedly released an audiotape this weekend, ending by calling on Iraqis to, quote, "resist the occupation in any way you can, from writing on walls, to boycotting, to demonstrating and taking up arms." adding, "you know, pretty much anything I used to kill you for."
