Coke vs Pepsi
-
Of all the things discussed in the Lounge I have never seen the perennial Coke vs Pepsi debate. What do you prefer? I drink Pepsi Max (I believe Pepsi One in the US). This is because it is sugar free and since being diagnosed with Diabetes a couple of years ago I decided to give up as much sugar as possible. Coke got the chop the beer didn't. As a side issue, what do you think about caffeinated drinks and children? Personally I won't allow my children to have any drinks with caffeine in them, they are 4y 7m and 1y 8m. It amazes me how many parents I see pouring Coke down the necks of their children who are less than 1 but they won't allow them anywhere near coffee. That's funy to me as it is invariably instant coffee which has fuck all caffeine in it where as Coke has heaps. I'm a Pepsi Max drinker. I used to drink a lot of Coke but much prefer the taste of Pespi Max. The lack of sugar is just a bonus. Michael :-)

I drink light Coke here in Brazil, because Windows is better than Linux. And IE is better than Netscape. (sad but true) And MFC is better than STL. ;P Hey, what do you have against coffee ? We are one of the largest coffee producers in the world, coffee is healthy! If your children don't like drinking coffee, try injecting it directly in their blood! I've hear from some jewish friends that Coke is not kosher, only Pepsi, is it true ? Nothing against coffee, I was slagging off parents who give the young children caffeinated drinks. Most of these same parents carry on about giving their children too much sugar and hyper-activity and Attention Deficit Disorder when activity and sugar are what children are all about. They then freak if their kids get near coffee and then it is mostly instant coffee which has most of the caffeine leached out of it. I like a good coffee but prefer it to be percolated not filtered and definitely not instant. On the Kosher question no idea as I do not know what makes something Kosher. Coca Cola is the only one for me. I wint touch that crappy supermarket-branded stuff, nor pepsi, as they all taste too 'composty' for me. That may not be the best way to describe it, but that's how I think of the taste. Not that I eat compost, of course... Re. parents giving kids coke (the drink, not the drug ;)): I think most don't understand that Coke, etc, contains caffeine. And even so, from experience, I drink coke by the litre  and it has never had any effect on me - apart from burping a lot. Whereas even the smell of coffee has the almost instanenous effect of making me want to vomit X|. Yes, I'm a programmer who can't stand coffee! David Wulff dwulff@battleaxesoftware.com

Personnally I can't drink dark pops (called by some soda's) but I would say Surge (Owned by Coke) was the best until it was discontinued. Then it is a tie between Mountain Dew (Pepsi, Not that Code Red Crap either) and Mello Yellow (Coke). -Matt Newman :suss:

I used to be a Pepsi fan, then switched to Diet Coke. When I came to my senses, I left the world of aspartame and decided to try Coke. I've been pretty happy with it and have no plans to upgrade. My geek friends prefer Mountain Dew for its sheer caffeine burst, but because I drink 2-3 cups of java, I haven't felt the need to um... "Do a Dew". /ravi "There is always one more bug..." http://www.ravib.com ravib@ravib.com

I distil my own water. At home I drink nothing but water during the week. Great stuff. Tim Smith Descartes Systems Sciences, Inc.
How do you go about distilling your own water? And does it taste better than that chlorine-tinted stuff that comes out of the tap? David Wulff dwulff@battleaxesoftware.com

Sears (USA) sells a 1 gallon distilling unit. Takes about 6-7 hours for a gallon. Taste? Well, there isn't any. But have you ever left a glass of water sitting around for an hour? You take a drink of it and it taste like it has grown hair. With distilled water, you can leave that water sitting around overnight and take a drink the next morning and it tastes as good as it did when you first poured it. One think I like about distilling my own water is I am sure that it is really distilled. However, once you find a reputable distilled water vendor, their stuff is just as good. (EDIT) I don't drink distilled water because I think it is better for me. I like it much better than tap water. Tim Smith Descartes Systems Sciences, Inc.
