18-year-olds and those turning 19 would probably not be drafted.

Well that means I would at least be safe for a few years since I turn 18 pretty soon. -Matt Newman :suss:

Lucky man. I'll be safe in about 2.5 years (26 years old). ** I'm torn here between patriotism and my desire to lead a "normal" life. Any flamers: please understand the dilemma. Jon Sagara Sagara Software

Those of us with computer skills would most likely be placed in some role far behind the front lines. Maybe to develop code for guided missiles, electronic eavesdropping, things like that. I would like nothing better than to develop software to guide a smart bomb up Osama bin Laden's butt. In fact, yesterday I sent off a resume to Lockheed Martin. I graduate with a Computer Science degree in December. They are one of many companies I'llbe applying to, some of which will be defense contractors. "Live free or die"

I'm on the other side of the world, but I've been thinking the same thing. I have two children and a pregnant wife, and I have never won a game of Counterstrike. But regardless of my personal odds, if it came to it I don't see how I could stay home and expect someone *else* to die for my freedom. They all have lives as well, family of some sort, etc. It's a situation I hoped never to be in, and while it's a lot further from me than it is you, it's closer than I would like, I can tell you. No, I'm afraid it's 2 weeks training and the front line for most of us. Christian As I learn the innermost secrets of the around me, they reward me in many ways to keep quiet. I just remember the stories of my father missing out on a tour of Vietnam due to his Bronchial Ectisys (??) and being a weedy poof. Many of his friends went and I was sure they didn't get the choice. Is anyone else getting errors when they hit Submit, only to find their replies posted? You're a close family then ? ;) ( Yes, I recall the story, don't feel you have to retell it ) Yes, I get that error, and general 'cannot find page' errors often enough that if I post, I open another browser and check if the message is there before reposting. I am lucky on 2 counts. 1) I live in the UK. 2) I work for a defense company writing software. The software I write is NOT for aiming missiles at terrorists (I wish it was), it tests electronic communications and radar components etc. I am glad that in some small way I will be helping the americans when the time comes, many of our customers are american companies (including Lockheed). Hope americans can come to terms with this horrid act and that it never happens again. Adrian :rose:

I already kinda do that. :-) I don't know if I can mention exactly what our software does other than it deals with "real-time image acquisition and transfer". But that's not enough - I wanna shoot some terrorists. :)

I know this has been weighing on my mind since Tuesday, and I'm sure some of you other guys have wondered, too. Here is the draft info, straight from the horse's mouth: http://www.sss.gov/ Jon Sagara Sagara Software
