got m/c upgrade today. Intel P4 2.4Ghz (too much for me given the fact i was using some 700Mhz till date). intel website says that chipset and processor are HT enabled. i am currently running WinXP professional and how can i make it use this HT thing (current installation says its uniprocessor).

You have to switch to the multiprocessor kernel. There is info on how to do this on the MS site. I'll see if I can find the link. [EDIT] I think if you reinstall windows with the repair option (basically installing it overitself) it will select the correct HAL (multiprocessor). This should not affect your software but you will have to reapply any service packs... [/EDIT] John

I think the following link will work: http://www.jsiinc.com/sube/tip2200/rh2202.htm[^] [EDIT] In step 6: choose Install from a list(advanced) Then dont search then next Then choose multiprocessor HAL I don't have any HT pcs but this could work... [/EDIT] John

Just curious, which 2.4GHz P4 do you have? The 400MHz FSB, 533MHz FSB, or the 800MHz FSB? The 2.40C P4 (aka 800MHz FSB) is the only 2.4GHz flavor with HyperThreading enabled (excluding Xeons). Kelly Herald Software Developer MPC
